Please help with basement layout! All advice welcome

Hi everyone! You guys have given me really great advice before so I couldn’t think of a better group to ask about my basement!

We recently finished our basement with the intention of it being our main area to hangout. We wanted it to be really cozy for movie nights with friends and family.

Our goal when choosing couches was maximum comfort and we were leaning more towards leather for this space. We found this sectional and it was the same layout that my brother has. It looks great in his living area so we picked it up!

Now that they are down there, we aren’t sure that they are the best fit for this space. Am I being overly critical? The biggest issue I’m having is with the post in the center of the room. Considering we don’t want to pay an outrageous restocking fee, we want to make them work. Any ideas on how we can arrange the room (with the TV) so we can start enjoying it? I tried to take a picture from every corner of the room.

I think you need to play with the placement, right now it looks like everyone has a great view of the post in the middle of the room??? Try turning it where the short end is next to the post, then the large end would back up to the windows and the TV could be mounted on the wall the couch is sitting on now.

Thanks for the suggestion! We were originally planning to mount the TV on the wall opposite of the windows. As it is placed right now, every seat on the couch would have a good view of the TV on that wall.

We have considered moving the couch farther back (closer to the windows) which would create more space away from the pole but then also farther from the TV.

In order to place the TV on that long wall, we would have to place the couch on either side of the pole, which I’m not sure it will fit. I’m definitely open to trying a different configuration but also wanted to avoid walking into the space and immediately seeing the back the couches.

Another issue with having them in the corner is I didn’t want to have this big space but then only use utilize 1/4 of the room.

as far as seeing the back of the couch you can add a console or couch table behind it to soften the look:

If you put them in the corner by the windows (between the windows and the pole) then on the other side I would add a round table and chairs for other activities (like games or craft activities):

You get more answers if you post a plan of the basement with the dimensions and indicating locations of everything in the room, windows, column location, etc this way it will be easier for people envision the entire space and make a suggestion.
