help me reconfigure my kitchen

hi all, we just moved into a recently renovated home. the investor didn't quite get the kitchen right, but that's why we got a good deal :)

as per the advice of others on houzz we are going to explore either recessing the fridge or changing for a counter depth. the current fridge is 3 feet deep and cramping the flow. we haven't had problems using the sink but we can't really use the counter next to the sink. we aren't convinved upgrading to an integrated is worth it, but we are going to consider it as we see appliances in person.

we are looking for feedback on layout. we want to extend cabinets along the wall of the large
window. we're trying to decide on the depth and style of these. probably normal counter depth to get storage space.

we are undecided on round table vs island/peninsula. I lean table bc we have 1 year old twins and need an easy gathering space. he has always loved islands so we will consider that for sure. we are both ok with losing a formal dining room, and if we ever wanted it we could take over the bedroom that's adjacent

we are curious about your thoughts on cabinets. we would love a wine/ beer fridge. i would like drawers. we are also thinking of doing a little more decorative on the upper, like a glass door or something, so the dining has its own (yet cohesive) feel. at this time we plan to keep the floors and the wall next to the stove as a visual separaton.

we are very much in the idea stage but we are hoping to move quickly. thanks for your ideas!!

Have you considered removing the window adjacent to the fridge putting in a bigger widow above the sink and flipping the fridge and stove. You can bump out the wall where the fridge will be so you slide it back into the wall about 10 inches or flush up the fridge box and have the doors sticking out about 6 inches.....a counter depth fridge is 30-32 inches deep and will stick out, so bumping out the wall behind could work, with exact measuring.....remove the walls between the kitchen and the dining room area and make it bigger feeling....try it out on paper and see if it looks and feels and works better.

Uh, no, it's not. Did you mean to write full size fridge? A counter depth fridge's box is 24", about 27" deep with the doors and about 29" deep with handles (I have one). A full size fridge's box is 30", with doors it's about 33" deep and about 35" deep with handles.

Voni P, how large is your home? Are there more bedrooms upstairs? I'm assuming so, since you wrote that you're okay with taking over a bedroom for a future dining room.

I've played with the floor plan a little to see what might be possible. I can tell you that without a doubt, there's no way to fit an island in your kitchen. Sorry to burst your DH's dream but you just don't have enough room to fit an island.

I'm working on ideas but I need to know more from you.

Are you okay with seeing your kitchen from the front door? Some people are okay with it, others want to keep it, especially the sink, out of view.

How big is your budget? Will it extend to moving plumbing? How about windows and doors?

What are the 2 rectangles along the DR wall in the back bedroom?

Do you desire an open floor plan as much as possible or are you okay with some degree of separation?

I'm guessing by the drawing, that the kitchen door leads to the basement stairs and an exterior door. Is that correct? Is that your only way to the backyard? Is that the way you'll come in with groceries?

So, you're really going to tear this kitchen apart with all that you want to do. First considerations are what you're going to do with the fridge. Consider putting it in the pantry location. I agree with Susan about the little window - it needs to be closed up and you can add cabinets there as long as the fridge is moved.
