Help! Succulent dying!!

so i got a succulent a few months ago. it was upright and thriving. but in the past few weeks, the leaves are dropping, and some near the center are white and soft. a couple bottom leaves are slightly yellow. the leaves near the center also sometimes get a cut near the end of them, closest to the plant. some of the tips are also turning brown and wilting, when the use to be a pink. i repotted my succulent yesterday, so i haven’t watered it yet. i live in the midwest, so we just got done with winter. i’m trying to provided as much light as possible. i use miracle grow cactus soil (i cannot access another kind). i use a pot tha has drainage. someone help me save my succulent!!!! i had another cactus die to root rot, and i don’t want the same fate for my succulent. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Perhaps they need more sun and less water? I have one of these too and found they need very little water. Even less than most of my other succulents.

I'm sure you'll get more expert answers. I only started growing succulents last year. If you heed advice given here, it'll be fine! Good luck.

Hi Kaylee. When you repotted did you notice if any of the roots were black, and squishy. Also same with the bottom of the stem where it meets the potting mix. Can you have a look and feel it. If it is I don't think it would be anything else but root rot. Can you take a photo of the bottom of the stem so we can see it. Try and take it close up and well lit. Makes it easier to see whats going on.

With succulents rot is usually (or always) caused from the roots staying wet too long. They need to dry out before watering again. Well done for not watering yet.

Also succulents need a fast draining mix and unfortunately Cactus and Succulent potting mix holds too much water for too long. An easy way to improve your mix is to mix it half/half with perlite. Perlite needs to be rinsed and dried first. A kitchen sieve is easy, just try not to breathe in the dust and rinse it outside.

I'm pretty sure you'll be advised to unpot it to check the roots. Personally I think there is a good chance that you will lose your plant (lets hope I'm wrong), but take heart that you will have learned such a lot about what Succulents like and don't like. So don't give up loving succulents ;-)

Also maybe your 2 plants are a type that are more prone to rot when wet for too long.
