Loni's baby quilt

I finished this baby quilt for a friend's new grandbaby due July 1. It was simple and used up lots of fabric I had on hand! It ended up being 40 x 50, so the little guy will be able to use it for quite a while!

Thanks, everyone! I saw a similar quilt on pinterst and printed the picture. Of course, I can't find it again! ANYWAY, the squares finished at 6" and each have 3 pieces. Mine were cut 4-1/2" square, then 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" background, and 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" background. Then the alternating blocks are 4-1/2" square background color, 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" color, and 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" color. The blocks are rotated so the background color makes a ladder going across the quilt. This is the quilt that was on pinterest.

You could make the blocks any size - calculating the ouside strips would be pretty easy.

Excellent use of on-hand fabric, Sue! I like to make 'baby' quilts about this size, too, as I think they're useful for a longer period of time. Is this your design? I like it!

From what I've found, this particular layout is called L-Block Quilt 21 and was designed by Carol A Ashley. My impression is the L-Block is the name of the block and the number is possibly the 21st quilt she made using this pattern.

"Quilts don't get much easier to make than when one uses a block with only three pieces. Carol A Ashley, AllThatPatchwork. The design is "original" but is so easy that I'm sure dozens, perhaps hundreds of others have done something similar. So feel free to copy."

Spooky!!

After reading Sue's post yesterday, I started to answer but got interrupted and didnt finish. This is what I started.

" When you see a quilt or a pattern, do you say " what if... "? I wonder what this would look like in two fabrics"

Here is my answer. Pattern and picture have gone into my 'someday file'.

Sue, L-Block Quilt 17. LOL I like it too, but I like your's better for a baby quilt. It would be so easy to make the color squares like an I Spy. I've saved your directions and picture in my To-Do file. Someday........
