I need some help.

We bought our first home last year and front and backyard already had established grass. In the backyard though, there was a large area covered with brush and trees which we cleared last Fall, graded the ground and planted new grass seed. The people who did this job for us used, I think, Sta Green sun and shade grass seed.

The grass has come stronger this Spring but we hate it, here is why:

• - it is a different shade, lighter than the established grass which is darker green. and we don't like it. Not sure if this is only because the grass is brand new.
• • - It is stiff, not soft and each blade comes out straight and has whitish hue.
• • - It grows straight up and when you walk on it, it bends, looks weird.
• • - Not sure why but it retains so much moisture that when I am mowing it, it gets stuck in blades and mower keeps stalling until i flip it and take out these wet clumps.
• • Not sure if the grass seed was too cheap. And what we can do about this problem.... we don't want to spend killing this grass and start new. We have already put in a lot of $ last Fall.
• • Anybody have any advice, recommendations?
