just too basic...

The view from this home and it’s interior is anything but basic...but the exterior is so boring. I’d love to add some curb appeal but don’t know where to start. Help?!

reveal the brick, maybe add some, paint the trim, paint the door. and get rid of all the huge shrubs, actually, remove them. the front yard is too small for large bushes. low shrubs or grass

Are you considering buying this home?

It looks like they were trying to hide the bottom of the chimney. A taller Japanese maple, like a Bloodgood would be nice which means you'd have to remove what's in front of the chimney now. Maybe a landscaper can remove the Japanese maple that's there now, and relocate it.

Could add some planters or big pots for some splashes of color. Annuals are pretty easy to take care of and then you can change up the color and style every season.

Yes...see about relocating or pruning the JM. You probably know this, but they're valuable and sooooo very nice. :-) Are you in the Northwest?

Here's a blank slate if anyone would like to add a new color, door and landscape.

Congrats on your new place—looks like you have gorgeous views!

I would replace the front door with something nicer and refresh the landscaping.

I love these ideas! Yes, I’m in the Pacific Northwest.

Pretty house. I just noticed the pattern in the roof shingles. It's really attractive. For changes, remove the tree behind the Japanese Maple; change the garage to a natural, medium brown wood; same for the front door. Then, step back and decide if you need to change the colors of your siding. I would leave it. Landscaping depends on what will thrive in your Zone.

Kim, make sure to paint any downspouts to blend with the brick/siding. Looks like your view from the back of the house is nice!

    @phun I love that!

Yes to cleaning up the landscaping and definite yes to Phuninthesun's Proper Grey rendering above. Such an improvement to add some depth to a very bland colour. And a new door, or at least a new door colour. That door is about as basic as they come. Make it nicer and I'd add more glass to the new choice. Lovely home.

My main projects would be painting the siding to anything other than beige :), maybe getting a new front door, and possibly updating the garage door to the kind with little windows. Great house!

Nice place. I might color block this house with a medium gray close to the roof color on the left and deep charcoal on the right. A modern door and garage door would take it to the next level. Go easy on the landscape. I'd rip everything out and just have a couple of specimen plants along with the lawn.

Hat tip to Phun for giving me the blank slate. ;-)

@groveraxle I love how creative that is! Thank you!

Oh, KIm, I forgot to mention, paint your downspout to match the brick so it disappears.

I like the ideas that are being posted. I would add in to paint the brick on the right side, leaving the chimney as-is. And I like the pergola over the brick, but wonder how it would look if it was extended to the chimney.
