Rita, you are so nice! I am glad to be home but seems like I was away for a long time, there is so much to harvest and do in the garden. While I was away the vegetables were given away to friends and I still got loads of produce to work with it. I left crates of harvested onions in the porch and they have been drying nicely, soon I will put them inside. I will make zucchini pancakes, bread and fritters for the freezer. fermented cucumbers for later. A lot of tomatoes were made into a sauce and today I am doing roasted tomato cherry confit.

The whole garden looks over moisturized!.:)

Isn't it amazing what happens when you're gone? Sometimes, I like to not even look at the gardens for a few days, just so I can see the changes better.

D, it is so right, after a few days everything looks so different. And when you are not looking the plants get bigger.:)

N, I wish that you were my neighbor too, we would have some nice time talking about gardening and other things. And I need friends to share the surplus, it is really a lot for small family. I looked at the fruit trees today and avocados and mangoes are getting some size, the figs too. And persimmons!

It is weird but from the mangoes, I am only getting fruit from one tree but not from the two others. A house in a close neighborhood used to have tons of fruit every year on his tree but not this year, his mango tree looks torched.

Silvia when you first moved in there, was the soil extra special already or did you have to do a lot of improvements and amendments? I'm just being nosy.

Rita, when I moved to this area, the house and garden were new about 10 years ago. The landscape was poorly done with a regular lawn and few bushes, most of them were taking out because they were the wrong plant in the wrong place.

First we put in the fruit trees, then the raised beds. The fruit trees were originally amended with black cow and the raised beds have a combo of peat moss, black cow, some hay all the way in the bottom and some pine bark fines. When planting again I add more soil and whatever fertilizers I need for the next coming crop. Tomatoes always go in pots and after the season is over, I recycle the soil in the fruit trees.

I have seen rich black soil in some other places but not here.:) we have no choice but use any organic material available.

On the other hand, the ornamentals have the native soil and pine bark mulch on top. I do keep on eye for pests and disease, that can take the plants in no time unless attended.

Worked on the onions this afternoon, cleaned them and put them indoors...Had the tomato confit with kale and a little bit of pasta, so good!

Looked around the garden today and more fruits are showing up, lychees were hiding and sugar apples.
