Hey Teresa,

I actually really love something like this for your space. These colors offer that cozy feel that I think you are looking for.

Your fireplace wall is very nice. Do you have a TV sitting in front of the firebox? Before recommending rug you should settle on furniture placement so you can get an appropriately sized rug. I would recommend placing the sofas in an L shape with the right hand sofa perpendicular to the FP, take down shelves on the left side and mount the TV on articulating arm in that space. Measure the floor space in front of the sofas extending the measurements about 12” under each sofa so the front legs will be sitting on the rug. Then place an end table in the corner created by the sofa. A square coffee table works with the new arrangement and also with the sofas facing each other. I’m guessing your sofas are about 80-90” so I’ll look for a 8x10’ rug.

This rug MAKES a statement.

I’m sorry. I see now that those are glass doors on your FP screen. My bad!

What size and price range? Only rec I can give,is to stay away from any center medallion and I'd want a rug without any borders for this space.

My first thought was a rug similar to that done by celerygirl. I like her mock-up, especially that it lightens the look of the black leather sofas.

But here's a darker alternative that I fooled with, just for comparison:

I think this calls for a rug with a LOT of texture.

That said, your room is having an identity crisis. I know you just moved in so you probably haven't even thought about what else this room needs, but the first thing that struck me was the totally inappropriate front door. I'd have to change that out ASAP.

If possible, I would also center the sofas on the fireplace. If that isn't possible, then I'd try them in an L-configuration.

Yes, the door really doesn't go with the contemporary furnishings... Not crazy about the half wall with posts either, but it's early days...

Thank you everyone for your input. As far as size goes I am not sure yet. Price range no more than 1,00$, I want something that will last a while. I am not planning on having a tv in this room as we have another room that will be used as entertainment center. It’s hard to place the sofas in the center of the fireplace because my dinning room is just behind and it will interfere with the walkway. I will however consider placing the couches on an L shape and see how that looks!
Thank you again!

Hello Teresa,

Is there a specific style of rug you'd be look at? You say you want something that is going to last, then I'd recommend a hand knotted rug. They can last a lifetime, and are a great addition to any space.

We think turning one of the sofas (the sofa that is currently in front of the front door) towards the fireplace and making and L shape with the sofas might help the look and layout of the furniture. Here is a design of ours with a rug that you also might be interested in. Also note the other pops of yellow around the room.

Unique table. :)
