i think you are on the right track ...

grow a heavy root mass ... and then plant them in early fall ... stay away from messing with pots over the winter.. unless you have experience with them ...

since you have many.. you might want to experiment ... and do half in a pot.. and half in the ground .. and then enlighten us with your findings ....

one thing for sure.. dont slam them into sun.. without proper hardening off ....

I was planning on putting these on my seedling benches in the backyard that is in deep shade. Hopefully I can grow enough roots by fall to put these in my planned seedling bed.

In peeking at the roots, they seem pretty well rooted for such small plants.

My seedling bed isn't ready yet so these 'Brave Attempt' plugs went into pots next to some of my smaller seedlings. The roots were pretty bound but I got them worked loose:
