Help with Master bedroom

Hello all,
Bought a house in 2012. Still haven't decorated master :(
I'm no good at it and very stressed as I want our bedroom to be restful and not a source of anxiety.
The room is 18.5 x 13.5. The bed is a king sleep number which is actually two twins with a connection. Dressers and nightstands are Villageois, craftsman style and must stay. The cedar chest belonged to my husbands grandmother and has been refinished. It is negotiable as is the red recliner.
I took pictures but I'm not very good at that either...let me know your thoughts. Oh the walls are newly painted, Sherwin Williams, Fawn Brindle. The carport is new it is a grayish blue. I think our style would be considered eclectic as we usually go with what we love rather than try to fit in the mold. BTW, I love HOUZZ, I don't know what I would do without it!

What type of style are you into? I found an Ideabook that may give you some ideas:

i think the reason you are stressed out is because you do not have a bed frame and the room seem incomplete. Reminds me of my room. Have you look at /looked up eclectic bedroom pictures? That may help in getting ideas on what you would like the room to look and feel. Sorry, I couldn't be much of a help.

Thanks loubelou, I'm sure you are right about the bedframe. It has been a source of frustration. I have looked at so many pictures of bedrooms and window treatments and art work till my head is spinning from my lack of focus. And I just noticed that in my original post the word carpet is spelled carport! I really hate the automatic spellcheck sometimes!!

Hi djjones. I know you say you are not good at the pictures - but do you think you could take a couple more so we can see what the other side of the room looks like & a close up of the end tables you want to keep. For the other view, you can take the picture w/your back to the wall that the bed is against.

Not to be too nosy but what kind of budget do you have? Do you have the budget for a new bed (headboard/footboard) or do you need to "create one" using the wall the bed is against?

I often here is stated that sometimes it is easier to pick a bedding ensemble / duvet set first that you really like and then work out from there perhaps pulling colors or textures from that. Are there any you have seen that you really like that you can post to give the designers some further inspiration?

Thanks Lyvonne, I uploaded 4 pictures. Are you only seeing one? I can see all 4 on my Houzz App. Budget is open but the bed is weird so I might have to be creative. I will try again to post more pictures.

Thanks Whispar, I'm like a kid in the candy shop when it comes to choosing a bed ensemble. I guess I just need to take the plunge. Starting with that is good advice though. I like these two...

Nice dilemma! Gorgeous stepped, tray ceiling (I'm 90% sure that is the right terminology). Consider drapes & separating the dresser & mirror so the mirror can be mounted directly on the wall. I can't see the cedar chest. Can you take a pic of it up close? The length of it seems like it might work at the foot of the bed with a cushion on the top. Not positive.

You have a bed (no headboard & 2 remotes wall-mounted), 2 bedstands (cherry finish???), 1 dresser, 1 short wardrobe, 1 jewelry chest, 1 antique cedar chest, 2 lamps with burlap-looking shade & bronze-looking bases, 5-blade ceiling fan with modern white glass globe, cool neutral walls, & art (many small-scale artwork pieces to keep in mind?). Plus you have a neutral-looking carpet you say is bluish grey. Have I missed anything?

    Red recliner?
Pattiegoode, there's a red recliner also. Here's a pic of that and a close up of the chest.
So, is the red wing-back recliner a style you want to keep & build around?

Here's another angle. The red chair can be removed, replaced. I do want to have a place to sit and read. And the view out of my window is very wooded and nice, bunnies and deer...

When you say the bed is weird - do you mean b/c it is there are two mattresses, not just one?

Do you know the width of the space between the windows (of the wall the bed is against)?

    Lyvonne
don't be afraid to angle your bed on a corner. A wooden screen or a tall head-board can soften the angle at the head of the bed. Things don't have to be at 9- deg angles. I'd put the chest at the end of the bed, making a foot board. To balance the warmth of the wood and cool of the wall, go with a darker and warmer bed spread, or go the same color as the wall to give the furniture "punch".

Lyvonne, the space between the windows at the head of the bed is 75". There is a light switch however that is 5" from the left window. The wall mounted remotes can be moved. And yes I felt like the bed is odd because it is two beds. We did that for size and for the flexibility of raising and lowering each side to our own preferences. It's actually quite useful.

I don't think having the two mattresses will be a problem when shopping for beds (if you go that way).

Have you looked at "no headboard" pics here on Houzz?

    Here's a search:

    Some nice ideas.

Hello everyone, all of your helpful ideas have really motivated me to get this project completed. Attached is a pic of the bedframe and headboard that we chose today. The manufacturer is Bernhardt. We actually saw it in use with a tempurpedic adjustable split king bed so the measurements are perfect. I chose a neutral linen with antique brass nailheads. Excited!
So, curtains first and then a bed ensemble or vice versa??!!
    Here's a pic I found on Houzz.
Hmmmm... I think bed ensembles are always easier to change than curtains, but that may only be my preference. I hate shopping for window treatments too. Somehow the window treatments really do seem more "permanent," so I think I'd go for them first.

Just my bias but I find that's get tired of bedding with prints (not generally a huge fan of wallpaper either).Instead, I prefer a solid color comforter, preferably reversible, which allows me to alter the look of the bedroom by simply changing accent pillows, shams, and other accessories. I even have autumn pillows and summer blankets and pillows. It creates some variety.

Just make sure whatever accents you choose works with your room style, lamps, etc.

Love the bed and adore linen! Very nice choice. Very neutral so your bedding is going to set the mood for the room. You could still go in many different directions. Personally, I love all white bedding & find it very soothing. You could also consider a multicolored pattern or print that would help you to tie together the light linen and the dark wood pieces. Pottery Barn has very designs but I'm not sure where you are located & what resources you have at hand.
