Elbow grease is my product of choice!

#1 is Palmer's Amaranth. Common weed in fields. Leaves and seeds are edible. I'm trying to remember what my grandmother called it. I can't see a second picture. EDIT: Oh yeah! Pigweed.

EDIT 2: You can tell Florida pusley because it creeps on the ground and has those fuzzy leaves and tiny white flowers.

Something interesting about pigweed. It has become immune to RoundUp and is a real problem in farmer's fields. It will literally grow anywhere, but in the fields, with all the fertilizer, it gets 5-6 feet tall and chokes out the crops. The worst thing is that it's more nutritious than the crops they are growing.

I prefer to pull weeds too. Both pigweed & pusley can regrow from their thick roots.

And I'd remove those pigweed seed heads before they ripen and dispose of them in the trash.

I guess down here, where the stalk doesn't sometimes die back in the winter, it might seem like a perennial, but Amaranth is really an annual. I've never seen it come back from the roots, but I've seen another plant sprout up right next to where last year's was, so it may seem like it does.

Pusley has a long, deep root that is hell to dig out if you get a mature plant. They also seed like crazy.
