What color palette are you striving for? I see a lot of color and pattern here.

Also there are a lot of lamps and lighting. I would remove the arching floor lamp with the 4 heads. Exchange the fan for a ceiling light. If the lamps on the left are teal I love them but I wonder if teal fits in here?

Agree with rawketgrl, change the ceiling fan to a ceiling light, a drum style light would look nice there. Removing the teal lamps on the wall would look better, they are beautiful lamps could they be used in another room? Could the wine rack be moved to the kitchen area to reduce the "busyiness" of that area? Definitely remove the 4 headed overhead lamplight. Lovely room, just a little tweak here and there is all you need!

A very busy area. What you need to do is remove some of the items, it makes the room look cluttered.

The colors are antique coral, blue, Light gray. We made the mistake of painting first, then trying to coordinate. I know some of lamps need to go. We are also replacing the blue sofa to a taupe color & a matching chair in place of loveseat. Should I replace the blue & white curtains to a more neutral color. All these things are new. We got the loveseat and couch new, but it was damaged upon delivery, can you believe 4 times. Long story short, we bought another one in place of those.(Taupe color) being delivered on the 6th of June. I know I’ve done everything backwards, but I can’t afford to do a whole lot more. Just think tweeting things here & there might help.Fireplace is to the right out of picture. Will upload pic later. Have tv over mantle above fireplace.

Will upload another pic of whole room later as well. We replaced the pics on left with an abstract with colors of blue, coral, some subtle green & yellow. The spider lamp over loveseat is now gone. But still to many lamps. Ladies don’t listen to your husband that was one of my biggest mistakes letting him take the lead most of the time. If I had it my way, believe me I would start with making him go somewhere for a month till I could rearrange it my way. But still any advice is greatly appreciated. So I should get rid of the other lamps in the dining room next to window & left behind sofa ( teal ones)? What about the curtains? They are new, but I think the gray spiral ones work, but the blue & white ones in dining room I’m not sure. Not a huge cost. Could be replaced. The dining room table and chairs may be replaced. Going to look at a round glass top table & wicker chars. My theme & colors were supposed to have been beach/coastal.

What about changing the blue & white curtains to a sand color woven shade? It would also go well with the natural colored curtain in the family room. I can't think of the name of the type shade they are called, if I find a pic I will include later. It almost has an organic look to it and would tie in with the coral pillows and the blue artwork, the kind of seashore theme you have going in your rooms. I think the taupe sofa will look great in your family room!

Donna what are the colors of the artwork on the back wall over the dining room table? Is this in the teal family or navy?

Are you handy? Do you sew? If you can even hand stitch, I’d keep the curtains, find a fringe trim at the fabric store in the color of the wall, and tack it to the curtains, top, and sides. I’d add the trim to a pillow or two as well. And yes, get everything out, and put back just a few things. Keep the rest stored and accessible, rotate the items so you can enjoy them, just not all at once.

It's not a bad start, imo, but needs cohesion. The coral paint is very attractive, but there are too many lamps as others have said. Yes, remove the lamps in front of the dining room window. They are too big. The teal shade lamps aren't working where they are- perhaps they can be used in the dining room, but please post a closer picture of the dining room first.

Consider moving your art/mirror around. The white mirror is a bit too large where it is now. I think it would look better where the 2 blue prints are. Move the 2 blue prints to over the sofa (hang closer together) where the 3 brown striped prints are now. Again, it would be nice to have another picture looking at the sofa straight on.

Too busy, too heavy, for an open but small area. One paint color for the entire area. Two accent colors, no feature wall please. Lose the love seat for two chairs, and less "visual wall" separation between dining and seating area. One fabric pattern for both dining and sitting area windows. Hardwood, one flooring for both areas, would help immensely.

Also, not every wall needs a "something" nor does very single table. You just have to give a room some air, and the things within that room air as well. It's simply too choked in all regards. Pattern, color, furniture, visual divides,....................and clutter. : ) A bit too much brown wood as well for the feeling (I believe ) your were seeking.

I would paint the entrance wall white and take down some of the wall decoration ...the blue drapes .. ( ? ) I don't understand what they cover ...is there a window ? Then take all the pillows off and have new covers made in a beige or white .... To many useless objects . What is that wall hanging on the left ..a wood sculpture ? Painting ? What is it ...? Take some more pictures of the room from all angles , please .

You need nothing , what you need to do is get rid of stuff. The space has no direction and is cluttered . Take the advice of removing everything and adding back slowly only the things you love and actually need.

I don’t know where you like but here in Texas ceiling fans are a must. Also overhead lighting except in an operating room is not something to be desired. Unflattering, hot as it heats up a room and not anything useful either. Maybe to find your way across the room in the dark. You certainly can’t read by it. Just another opinion, but don’t shoot down ceiling fans.

Yes, remove the blue drapes and declutter. Hope you are feeling ok after all this advice. A lot of advice and you seem to be taking it in good nature. I know what its like to have a hubby who wants to have some input. You cant blame them, it is their home also, but sometimes they just don't know what looks ok and what does not.

It's not as bad as some people are saying. Minimalism is not for everyone. The color scheme works with the beach/coastal style. I do think the window treatments should be the same. The changes the OP has already made should be improvement. She just needs to post updated photos with her new art, furniture, etc.

You have already committed to some changes by buying some new things. Once you receive those things, and install them in your home, ONLY THEN should you post a picture of the room. Start a new thread by showing the old photo and showing a photo of the room with the changes you have already made, and tell us what is still bothering you.
Right now, in the current photo, we see an undecided color palette, a multitude of lamps and lighting in seven styles and twelve colors, and thirty-six pieces of clutter. Making suggestions without seeing your new purchases will not help you.
We look forward to the opportunity to make informed suggestions when we see the changes. Don't be embarrassed....many people begin decorating without a plan. You are not the first, nor will you be the last. We are here for you.

Keeping the carpeting and the ar ,which is over the sofa:

Paint all the walls : B.M Beigewood. It will be a good backdrop for the sofa/loveseat.

Everything else goes…pillows, throws, knickknacks.

No need for pillows on the sofas.

But you do need something red in the mix (not the pinky color of the accent wall). Maybe a small tray on the coffee table.

Thank you all for your advice. I will take and upload a pic of rest of room tomorrow when it’s daylight. All these things said help immensely. I’m just sorry I didn’t go with more subtle hues for a beach theme such as natural colors of the ocean like soft blue, sand, white, sea foam etc. I’ve looked at tons of pics that I could have easily followed that theme. But in the heat of the moment, life, work, well we all,know how that goes. So I believe we just rushed through too fast. I’m a Capricorn and I overthink everything. Obviously too much. But I’m also very easy to please. Go figure. I’m also an earthy person, hence wanting a natural, earthy tone. I wish I’d have found this Houz appt., sooner before we started all our painting, etc. Research and a good overall plan of our design before we even started should have been set in motion first and foremost. By the way, I do hate clutter, this is totally not me, so just convincing my husband to get rid if things is a job in itself. I’ll keep everyone posted. Thank you again.

When I declutter I put everything on a large table out of the room it was in. I group into sections then add one thing at a time back into the room with the goal of leaving a lot of stuff on the table and only things that relate to each other and the room.....i pick the things I love and the things that will work in the room with space and color.....you have a lot to choose from but you need not choose it all...and there might be other things in other rooms that will work for you. Try it?

Also when you bring something into the room it should look like it works with another element in the room....example, your sea foam green sofas look like them might work with the teal lampshade lamps; you might try that combination first. Or the silver lamps might be your favorite for either end of the sofa, but then you might want something silver somewhere in the room that relates to the silver lamps.....at the moment it looks like you have a showroom with a large variety of elements that you love, but they do not relate to each other yet....so trial and error in getting things to relate. It is a process but you have a great deal of items to work with....good luck.

Since you are striving for a coastal look, I would suggest by starting with a painting or a photograph as inspiration for your color palette. For example:

Choose your wall color from the painting. Perhaps the color of the sand, the water, or the clouds. Paint all of the walls the same color. Definitely, paint over the coral wall. I find the "earthy" red/ orange color very jarring.

The problem with the coral is that salmon coral evokes a very different feel: a tropical underwater scene See, for example, how very different the palette and mood evoked by this art:

I think you've had difficulties because you've just thought in terms of "water" without defining what you mean by "coastal."

When you begin with motion recliner sofas in leather, it's quite difficult to create a sunny, seaside and southern coral feel in a space. When you add a lot of brown furniture ? Same issue. Best to just concentrate on making a pleasing whole, and no obvious theme other than perhaps nature.. : )

Lightbulbs with shades giving off yellow hue. Suggest getting lighting resolved, then choose colors in room.

Find 2-3 pictures of rooms you like & keep it on you when shopping. Refer to it to keep to your taste.

Create a plan.

Time to curate your collections. I didn't read through all the posts, but there are currently way too many lamps in these rooms. Also in light of your furnishing selections, make sure any lamps you purchase have shades that will stay WHITE when the lamp is turned on and not yellow/golden.

I don't think the coral addition is successful in this room. No reason for the arc floor lamp. The room has possibilities, but there are too many accessories all over the place.

All the lamps I’ve had except for the gray ones on the end table. They are new. So those I will def keep. The ones on dining room I know need to go. Like you said, I’m gonna wait till new taupe sofa and chair arrive. Then go from there. Painting again may be out of question. Atleast until I decide about other decor. I do wish though that I had painted a neutral color such as sand, white, earth tone maybe.
