Cryptomeria Black Dragon problem?

last modified: 8 years ago

Bought this Black Dragon Cryptomeria about a week ago. It was completely healthy and green then. Now... many of the buds are turning brown and obviously not viable. It's been fairly damp and wet outside, and not in an overly sunny location...but plenty of sun. Any ideas? Obviously I need to get it in the ground but it's been sitting in a nursery probably with minimal care, and I have it for a week under ideal conditions and it looks like this... lol

I'll throw this out there. A big reason people are moving to Facebook, is because this post would have been answered by about 10 people within an hour of posting, on any of the various conifer groups. Just saying, lol. Forums are dead.

with evergreens .. imo .. things just dont happen in a week ...the insult.. or the injury ... could have happened weeks ago.. and just not 'showed' until it got hot outside ... which may have coincidentally been around the time you bought it ...

and you will never know what happened to it before you bought it ..

we work in tree time.. and a 17 hour reply time is nothing ... lol .. and some of us dont want to sell our souls to FB ....

Thanks Ken. Yeah FB has it's downsides for sure. Just making note, that the pace of there moves much differently, and is a major draw for many and the reason people are leaving.

Not sure I understand this statement.

If you like, and if you are concerned about privacy issues, there's no stopping you from setting up a completely fake profile on Facebook. Fake name, fake age, whatever. You first need an email address. Of course you can set up one of those with Gmail. You could have a Facebook presence just to participate in plant pages. No big deal. Just takes a bit of set up. Facebook has a lot to offer. I've set up two forums. One just on hollies and one on Broadleaf evergreens.

One thing I do wish FB would add would be some formatting options (bold, italic, indent) for more expressive text.

People object to FB for all sorts of reasons - the lack of ethics involved in developing it to begin with, lack of privacy, internet usage tracking, false news, etc. And don't think that signing up under a "dummy" name will stop them from tracking and finding the real you!!

Facebook is the Monsanto of the social media/online communication world!! You will never convince those who now avoid it like the plague to join. And it can never replace the sort of communication and connection and feeling of family that GW developed over the years.

I am not a fan of most of the changes instituted by Houzz last week. But Houzz management does realize they have made some major mistakes and are working to gather information from GW users to correct the worst and modify the rest. Yeah, it's awkward and not currently very user-friendly. But it is workable. And has certainly not deteriorated to the point where I would depart GW for any FB group!!

btw, other threads on this forum have been answered within an hour of posting. Sometimes there is no immediate response due to the timing of the post to begin with or because folks do not have a ready answer.....it's that simple. It sure doesn't mean that "forums are dead"!!

I agree that one has to vote with one's wallet. I will not shop at Uline, Walmart or Exxon. There are so many others that I would rather not deal with but have decided to do so because in my personal calculus the benefits outweigh the negatives. In most cases, I try to limit my usage and look for replacements. I try to be as objective as I can be; not always easy. But I do try to evaluate personally what each offering has before I decide to boycott it.
