New House : Power over ethernet lighting

Hi

First post .. go gentle :) We are looking to building a new house in Vancouver, Canada. I've been looking at options for home automation. I like the idea of controlling the lights with switches and software. Watching superhouse on youtube gave me the idea of controlling lights by using Power Over Ethernet for LED lights.

The latest standards should be plenty for normal LED bulbs. Searching on the internet all I can find PoE lighting solutions for businesses. I understand why it would be a good solution. But does anyone know if this is possible on a domestic house? I was thinking of running cat5 back to a PoE switch. Then controlling it through panels/software.

Be very grateful for any thoughts.

Cheers

Jinder
