Grey, perhaps a shade lighter or darker than the tile.

You're a real fan of hex tile! I love them too, especially the large format ones. I'm also considering penny tile in the shower. I would go dark gray because what you have there now looks nice and you don't want to clean grout.

I would suggest either the same color as the tile, or a bit lighter. In my opinion, a dark gray or white grout would make the pattern of the hex tile be too prominent.

I suggest a gray grout that is one shade lighter than the actual tile color.

Thanks-will do on the slightly lighter grout. Learned my lesson...I’m asking the contractor to do sample boards for all the tiles! Yes @mayflowers-big fan of hex, penny and subway.

So smart to do sample boards!!! Remember some grays are warm and some cool in tone. Use the tone that will go well with the tile.

Doing a shade darker will result in the overall look that you see right now on the ungrojted floor. That's what I personally would go for. But you definitely can go a shade lighter too.

So the Custom Products#395 Winter Gray most closely matches the tile color. Beth mentioned driftwood yesterday-that’s the one closest to the tile. And the other one I liked was called #542 Graystone.

Match as close to tile or slightly darker. It will create the best overall look and make space look better and bigger. Love the large tiles. I am not a fan of penny tiles because they have too much grout and difficult to get installed without square sheet showing. So be aware of those challenges with penny tiles.

I also have this pale gray tile (might be a big mistake cleaning-wise) in a few areas. Was thinking bleached wood for the grout. This one I want to have disappear against the tile, rather than have the contrast like the hex floor.

Any opinions of the fusion pro from custom building products? Is it easier to keep clean (that regular sanded grout)? Would it work in a shower? I want to make sure it’s slip resistant for my mom in her shower. We put in the same floor tile in a 2x2.

The grout is part of the design with penny tile. Using it as an accent, the spacing issue shouldn't be a problem as it is with a floor. How many rows of pennies will you be able to fit in the accent area?

Fusion Pro grout is stain resistant, not dirt-proof. I would use a shade matched to the gray. That light grout will stand out because the tile reads a light gray.

I would post photos of the samples when he grouts them. I'm not sure how accurate the sticks are. They say grout dries a shade darker though.

I tried to talk my boys into gray and white hex or penny in the shower but they both wanted the blue...I hope it looks okay with the gray hex on the floor! The tile is hard to see but it’s the lighter one on the left.

Do the cobalt blue for best overall look. But i see a bad joint of two sheets of penny tiles in that niche which would drive me crazy.

I think a small gray hex or penny would be better to tie together.....

Or some rocks or tiles that have both a littleblue and gray?

@laura mac...That’s exactly what I wanted but it’s their bathroom so I’m fine with it. I’ve changed some tile in 2 out of 4 baths, for those keeping track, so I’ve hit my limit!

Flo, I think it's in. I too was confused. There are 2 colors of penny rounds, so I thought she was asking advice on what color and the dark was photoshop....my bad.

Well, i love the gray hex! So there is that!

I’ll point it out but I’ve seen other penny pre-grout that look worse and then look okay once the grout is in. Honestly, this reno has brought the worst perfectionism out of me and you can tell my me not caring about the penny being off a bit, that I’m so done! I just need to get moved in!

I’ll make the colors work with towels or art or something. Originally, the dark blue penny was for kids, the lighter one was for guest bath. The darker tile was on backorder and we waited for weeks, but we were still missing 3 sheets when tilers were ready. So my choice was to order a totally different tile, wait longer, or switch bathrooms because I had ordered and received way more than I needed of the lighter one (minimum order). And the kids and my color-blind husband liked the lighter tile more. So I opted to switch bathrooms. Sorry too many hex and penny posts-it’s confusing!

No problem. I am sure your frustration level has long been exceeded. Small matters in the final analysis. It will be ok.

None of this would have been an issue had I just ordered the one I wanted online! I liked this one in either bathroom, but no one was into gray!

Of course Beth was right about Driftwood for the grout. Looks amazing! Thanks Beth! There’s a little wonkiness in the penny but not what you can sense with the naked eye. It does show in the photo, but will not bother me in the least in the shower.

I would go darker ...kids bathroom ..and all ..anyhow the grout always gets dirty and darkens , so...with a darker color ..it's less noticeable and ...easier to maintain .

Who cleans the bathroom- if it is you. Then you should do what you want. Plus the kids will move out one day and you may be stuck with tiles you do not like!

do gray grout. it will be llighter than the tile but it will match it nicely. the white will get dirty and then some places will be white and some places will be darker from dirt

Good to know... in many cases the light ones can look dirtier... but it looks great!

Well it’s been 4.5 months of daily use by two boys ages 9 and 11 and it still looks great! So happy I went with Driftwood.
