I recently bought a home that needs a LOT of cosmetic work, and I'm quite stumped with the kitchen. The house came with basic, 1989 builder grade oak cabinets, that are mostly in quite good shape, and old (89) laminate counters. My original idea was to paint the cabinets white, quartz countertops, and add a backsplash. But then I started rethinking the quartz and was looking at marble-look Formica, to help save costs, and I'm not sure it makes sense to put higher end countertops on the old cabinets. My investor is suggesting looking at getting new cabinets so that quartz would make more sense, but since cabinets aren't always the best, I'm concerned getting new cabinets that aren't as great/lesser quality, since the cabinets are almost 30 yrs old, but still in good shape.

Am I over thinking it? Should I just put quartz on the existing cabinets?
