The female Peach Tree Borer has the yellow orange band; the male does not.

This is a moth that does not have a tiny waist like a wasp.

They lay their eggs on the lower trunk or main branch, there should be no damage to twig ends from this insect. An actual blue-colored wasp might visit branch tips looking for aphids or caterpillars on new growth.

Control of Peach Tree Borers is done in early spring with sprays; catching the adults does no good. Do a search for Peach Tree Borer control.

Dear Sir:

I did a search and identified it as Blue or Black wasp? YOU saved my life! I thought it is some kind of peach borer and did not worry about bites. Now I have to stay away from those "things" because I am very very allergic to bee and / or wasp bites. I do carry epi-pen all the time with me because I was dying many times from bee and wasp bites.
