Ooh, I really like both of those options but I think the second one seems to fit better.

The dining room is a really lovely room and the fixture you have there works best with the existing table and chairs. I would simply take down the scones that are a bit undersized and add some botanicals that add a color that enhances the wood tone of the dining set.

This chandelier is light in scale and would dictate a dining set that would be lighter in tone and finish like the image you see below. Pine finishes would be more appropriate for the room. You kind of see through the chandelier when it's in front of the china cabinet.

Hi Beverly! Thanks for your comments! I like your idea about art flanking the china cabinet! :) So if I did that would the crystal/drum chandler still not work? That's the chandelier I was leaning towards.

The crystal chandelier will work with your existing set, but the rest of your home leans a bit more casual, so that's why I didn't pick it. I don't think there's anything wrong with the existing light fixture. Pretty unusual actually.

I'm with Beverly. What you have now fits your space and doesn't look like everyone else's light fixture. Is there a reason you want to get rid of it?

I agree with Beverly. With that room layout, your sight line would come to an abrupt halt at the shade on the second light (don’t ask me how I know....)

When you say “sight line comes to a halt” do you mean it’s better to see through the chandelier?

I was thinking you should hang the crystal/drum chandelier a little higher than the one you have now but I see what they're saying about the sight line. How do your two options compare in size to the current fixture?

Yes, it will block your natural sight line to the end of the room, and the room will appear smaller. Better something that is open. Not a pro, just speaking from unfortunate experience. My dining room has the same setup as yours.

Oh yikes! I don’t want it to appear smaller! So would the first style work? Beverly I know you said the crystal one would work but I wasn’t sure if you were referring to the first chandelier I have pictured or something else.

You have a lovely home and your touches are very cozy. I think your current fixture is too heavy for your look. Lots of good options out there. I would consider a “beaded” look. You can still see through but they bring a fresh, new look. Here is one i just used in our home.

I don't see anything wrong with the fixture that you have now, either. It is not dated and it fits into your style. Out of the two suggestions, I think your current fixture looks better in your room than either of them will. Why change it???

I like the Crystal Chandelier. It is an updated classic and I feel it is acceptable to blend the casual with the elegant. I agree with Three Peaches that the existing one dates the room and is also very heavy for the space.

I also agree that the existing one is too dark and seems too Tuscan for the style of your home. Of the 2 you posted, I prefer the Paladino. But the beaded chandelier Flo posted would look simply fab!

Wow - I love your dining room! The furniture is beautiful, do you have armchairs that match your side chairs? I would do away with the small sconces and put art in their place. The current chandi looks way too heavy , but the Paladino is too delicate and the drum shade fixture just doesn't seem to be right. Keep looking. :-)

You can get away with a shock of bling. I'd go with the second chandelier, and find wall sconces with a bit of bling.

I do see some farmhouse/French country in your other rooms, especially your console table, which complements the Paladino. To me, the Paladino introduces that style into the DR, plays nicely with the wainscoting and moulding, and mimics the curved lines in the china cabinet and chairs.

Yes i do think the Paladino is too french country for your room. But i might have one that walks line that might work for you.

I believe the second chandelier with the white shade is the better choice as it stands out better against the plain walls and the white curtains. The other chandelier, though lovely, gets lost in the background.

If you go more “transitional” on chandelier, then i would consider larger art either side of buffet. That will depend on chandy.

Threebabypeaches- just playing with some ideas. More open chandelier, some use of aged golds, and I would also paint top of trey a great deeper color that repeats your favorite color in the space.

I think you existing chandelier blends in too much. What you need is some sparkle, something open and airy. Your 2 choices don’t do that - the pine just doesn’t work, the drum shade is too bulky.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure your chandelier is one-half to three-quarters the width of your table. For the right hanging height, position the bottom of the chandelier about 30-32 inches above the table, adjusting to work with the size of the table and the overall scale of your space.

Your current dining room is fairly dark. I like the first chandelier but I’m not sure it would “fit” in since it would be the only light colored object and it’s fairly light and airy. Does that chandelier come in a dark finish? I think that would fit the bill on a lot of levels! I vote a definite “no” on the drum shade/crystal chandelier. It’s beautiful but there is nothing anywhere in your house that style or “feel”! Good luck!

You can use larger chandelier with height if ceiling and width of table especially with open look. I think the one you posted would be good but go to30” wide and up to 38” high. Site line looking from where and looking at what? When you're looking at the china cabinet?

Though that chandelier is a bit heavy looking and would be very pronounced in the room I don't think you have to worry about sight lines as what it would interfere with is your window which has a blind on it so it's not like you are hiding the view and your china cabinet is large enough that you will still see it just not all of it.

To me the heavy beading just doesn't quite work with the rest of the furnishings. with your ceiling height and table width and length, 28" round is good sized and you can go up to about 28" high. That would leave some height for chain. The one you posted above is a good width and open design. I would check the quality of the "crystals" since that will be important to the overall look.

This one would look pretty IMO.... the crystal one is also very pretty.

If you are planning to change the dining room chandelier, I would use the first on because it more open and airy and doesn'5 block the view of the china cabinet. I like the drum chandelier's looks but it would block the view of the cabinet as much or more than the current chandelier.
