Bathroom redo help needed!!

I have a very odd second bath that needs completely redesigned. It will be used for guests and has outside access from pool area. The photos are hard to show the problems but when walking into the room you run into a small closet. The vanity/sink/mirror/lights all need replaced as does the flooring. The shower is ok if I can get the redo to work with it to save money. The commode is oddly placed and separated by a half wall that makes the walkway very narrow. I think the half wall definitely needs to come out but will the commode look odd placed this way ?Please help with any ideas.

      Your guess of the layout was amazingly close!! Here are the exact dimensions. The room feels very cramped especially at the 20 inch passageway. I thought maybe to eliminate the closet when walking in and possibly putting open shelves on left side of anew vanity . And somehow eliminating the half wall but the commode may look out of ! Any recommondations for good flooring options for wet feet from the pool?? Has anyone had any experience with the new vinyl tiles available ? Thank you all very much for looking..!

      yes, you are an excellent guesser!! it is 7 by 11.6 approximately. Not a ton of space to work with but I feel it could be utilized better than it is.

      As far as pool-friendly flooring, a coarse tile or cedar planking is nice.
      Italian tilemakers often produce three textures for a given pattern: rough, honed, and polished. You might find a rough that you like.

      Yes, it is very crowded in there.
      One quick fix, if you don't want to do more, would be to go to a frameless shower, eliminating the wall between the shower and vanity. That gives you more clearance, as the shower doesn't need to be 64" long (this looks like it was put in the space previously occupied by a bathtub?)...

      I'm not sure what was there before as we just bought the house but that sounds reasonable. The frameless shower would make the space more open. I think removing the closet and making that area open shelving may help also. Any thoughts on removing the half wall or would that make the toilet area look odd? I even thought of making the wall behind the toilet open shelving just to give the room a more airy feel. The toilet area is the most baffling area to deal with. Do you think it should be moved or turned for the back to be on the right-hand wall?

      Consider these initial modifications.. (and I am about to look at the closet issue):
      Here is a 4'6" frameless shower with a mitered corner. This gives about 2'8" clearance to the corner of the 1" shoji screen by the toilet. This screen saves 3" inside the toilet enclosure, much needed space.
      Also, you should go to an 18" deep vanity, which is a very standard depth, saving space in the aisle.
      The vanity is now considerably longer, providing more storage and counter space.

      Moving the toilet is usually a larger project, but I thought you might want to place it where the closet is, if moving is an option. Actually at this point in the model it works pretty well.

      I never thought of changing the wall by using a shoji screen. I will look into that as it seems like a very interesting design. I really appreciate all of your thoughts. Hopefully I will be able to post some nice before and after photos once the project is completed. Thanks again.

      Here is the IKEA Godmorgon 55" vanity, which is a floating vanity. While you have the space to use a 60" vanity here, this is a nice, cost-effective option, and the floating aspect helps open the space.

      Great job on the drawings. I would suggest having a smaller shower to give the needed floor space near the toilet area. It would open the feeling and it seems that the shower is oversized and not needing to be that large.

      Very nice Star. I am inclined to agree that a 48" shower would be sufficient instead of 54" even with glass walls. The longer counter space with a full wall mirror would make that room look large.

      Besides the smaller shower I mentioned, I would also keep the half wall at the toilet. Upper half with an etched glass panel to further open the space. In a narrow room, tall elements that go to the ceiling will feel more closed in.

      Yes, in the design process I start by taking away as little as possible.
      A. 4 ' shower will be probably better, and may need to be 1 or 2" deeper.
      The half wall crowds the toilet.

      I want to thank you all for the great ideas. After some thought I am concerned the shoji wall may be a bit too delicate for that area . Maybe just lowering the height of the half wall and possibly adding the glass would be a good alternative . A floating vanity is a great thought too to open the space. You all have me really inspired to start the project .

      The half wall really does take up a considerable amount of valuable isle room. The same people that do the shower glass can give you options for a thinner divider. An obscure glass that starts 6" off the floor and is 5' tall, may be best. A good finish carpenter could make you something more sturdy and permanent that is just as thin and incorporates both solid wall and frosted glass.
