WHERE'S THE PICS ?

ron

No pics, new conifer plantings at my new place are 2 years or younger.

Just wondering if any one here use summer solstice as a kind of check point for what they are doing with their conifers.

OK, 2 years in the ground, first thing I did, a welcome feature for my visitors.

Pinus sylvestris 'Glauca Nana' although it looks green now (not Glauca) because I sprayed it with horticultural oil (caterpillar problem). I love the little tree very much but it has little non-obvious problems that I posted about in the past. Wish me luck nursing it to full health.

Other pics will have to wait for 3 years or so until things mature a bit :-)

I'm always happy to get over the summer solstice hump. I live in fear of summer down here, and while the heat will continue for months, at the least the days are getting shorter!

Thanks, it is a Pinus sylvestris 'Glauca Nana', 2 years in the ground, it will take me another 2 to 3 years (I think) to get the little tree to where I want it to be.

Sorry, I just realized you already mentioned it was a P., well, you know what. I guess I should’ve asked to refresh memory on “it has little non-obvious problems.”

It looks good to me. The stem is fat and the foliage looks healthy. You have a plan for the tree? It looks like the tree has a plan of its own.

Yeah, 2.5"+ trunk diameter at the base :-) A bit too long to discuss the issues of my little Buddha tree as I call it, issues that I now believe were caused by cultivation sins/neglect of the grower. I correct them little by little from one year to the next, I am about half way there.

So, what kind of checkpoints do cone heads have at summer solstice?

very nice setting

you talk as though plant have to be certain age to get pic worthy

Thanks, glad you like the setting!

Yeah, my garden Feng Shui says to avoid the 'just planted baby plants' look for several years. However, lucky me inherited a couple of 30+ year old conifers that I have been slowly creating a setting for. Hopefully, that will be pic worthy come summer solstice next year :-)

but looking back at babies just in ground is fun
