I hate your first and third pictures. I could tolerate the second and fourth ones. What is the obsession with cluttering up a bed with superfluous pillows? I am reminded of a child's room with tons of dolls on the bed. I guess this is another HGTV prank on us. "Let's see if we can totally render couches, beds, and chairs useless by piling lots of stuff on them." And who is going to sit on that couch in the third picture? Obviously the pillows go on the floor.

Anyway, I would look at http://www.thecompanystore.com/bedding-2 for some inspiration. They have many different looks.

The second picture is so peaceful looking. It would be a say to replicate. You don’t have to be exact. But I’m NOT a pro.

I love beds with pillows (lots of them) and I say mix it up with lots of texture especially. Color is a personal thing so add your pop of color/s to the mix. I think the ‘bed in bag’ look is not a good look (too matchy-matchy) rather a help for those who can’t put together their own look. I would say find inspiration bed pictures and start putting together your own look. It can be fun. :) ETA: I love feather inserts in every pillow on our bed as opposed to a poly fill - the down (or alternative down) allows movement in the pillow as opposed to a rigid looking square pillow that will eventually look flat and cheap. It also allows for that indent look if you want that look (which I do :D)

Yes, Imzeller02, magazine photos are meant to get us out there buying a bunch of stuff which looks good on the bed but will be on the floor every night unless the bed is never used. Simplify: two sets of sheets (on the bed, and in the laundry), a simple bedspread, duvet or coverlet, and a nice bed skirt. My go-to coverlet/spread is matelasse, a washable (it will shrink a little bit the first wash) quilted coverlet which we use instead of a blanket in warm California AND in cold-winter Michigan. Add two decorative pillows to stand in front of your bed pillows. If you sleep without a heater in winter, you could add a blanket between the coverlet and the sheets.
Matelasse comes in several light colors which can be accented with solid or print pillows. Simple, easy.
The frou-frou may be luscious and inviting, but unless you make it a point to show guests your fancy bedding, you are wasting money on useless frills.

I look at places like Schweitzer Linen, Leontine Linens, and Horchow. Fancy brands like Austin Horn, or Waterford linens. I tend to choose matchy-matchy stuff since I can't decide either on pillows. I'm currently looking at Catherine's Palace, Cascata and Charlotte bedding, I think all are Austin Horn, but searchable on google (e.g., "Catherine's Palace Austin Horn"). I'm thinking of pairing some Schweitzer Linens pillows with the Catherine's Palace ... get some texture going.

Felizlady brings up a good point - if your bedroom is tucked away and no one sees it but you then consider keeping it simple (IF that’s your desire). Our bedroom in our previous home and in our current is seen by guests because of its location. So, our bedroom decor is thought out as much as any other room that guests would be in. Anything that’s pretty to look at is definitely worth the effort of a few pillows needing to moved at night;)
