I love tiles, but of course not everyone does. I have cream gloss units and I decided to have glass mosaic in a pale green. Pic below. I’ve also included some other ideas. I’m not sure if split face tiles would be easy to clean?

Tiles work great. You have so many choices, which admittedly, can make it hard to choose!

Even just a simple Metro tile in a colour that you like (and pretty much anything goes with beige) can be really effective.

A reversed painted splashback is also a good, easy to keep clean option. Top tip - always get sample pots of the colours you like, paint up swatches (A4 size is good) before committing to the colour. As you've found out, it can be expensive if you get it wrong!

Same with any tiles you like. Most suppliers will let you have samples either for free or a small cost. It's always worth doing this, and often they refund the cost when you return the tiles.

I'm not a fan of split face tiles in a kitchen...difficult to keep clean.

When selecting a splash back colour, the colour of your worktop, flooring and kitchen walls should also be taken in to consideration.

I would say that is best to stay away from colour if you are having serious doubts, as this is not something that can be replaced easily. So your safest option here is white. It will give you a classy, clean look and it will never go out of style.

It's a really nice kitchen, looks great. I would think about something neutral as anything with a definite 'colour' will affect the cream. what kind of surface are you thinking of?

A pale warm stone coloured splash back would work with the units and complement the rich wood. Have you tried standing one of the floor tiles up against it to see how warm neutrals would look?

I think white would give a much better contrast and a cleaner look.
