I disagree with peacock artwork. Find something more interesting and sophisticated. Pick up pattern in rug with piece like Paul Nog artwork on Serena & Lilly. Also Break up blue chairs with pillows, maybe subtle pattern like rug.

The peacock is fun and the florals are calming. I'll have to flip a coin since I love the look of both. I'm guessing I would replace both mirrors with coordinating prints? Maybe have only one mirror in the room above the fireplace? This is where I struggle... trying to coordinate the pieces to make it all flow.

I have existing blue prints in the back of the room but they are not as fun or colorful as the peacock.

If you love the peacock painting, use it! I’d add another color in pillows, a throw, and in ceramics. Bright yellow, pale lilac, or a medium pink. Something unexpected. You can pull the color from that peacock painting. But I agree with everyone, the room needs more "you" in it.

I would add a warm color as an accent to the room, like a raspberry color and drapery panels on the windows.

Use what you love (I got the impression when you said you wanted to use the peacock as inspiration that you love that painting. But perhaps I’m mistaken).

I think I would worry a bit less about everything “coordinating”. I guess for me it comes down to the fact that everything at the moment looks TOO well coordinated!

I think you can do better with the lamps and I love your peacock picture and hope you use it in your room.

You already have a beautiful room. To make it truly a reflection of what you love, find a piece of art for the fireplace (or elsewhere in the room) of a subject that speaks to you and more or less with a bit of color that works with your existing furnishings, which a lovely. Then just add pillows in one of the accent colors from the painting.

P.S. You already have a beautiful, large mirror. However, you could possibly move the painting you have over the sofa to over the fireplace and a mirror over the sofa to reflect it--which is like showing two paintings! Not sure of this, but I did have the thought. Then just do yellow, orange, lime, teal, or whatever accent color you like in your pillows and other items.

leelee... I agree about the plants. I've been researching faux plants and hoping to find one local so that I can see the quality in person. We don't get much sunlight in the room and have gone through quite a few live plants already.

I like the juxtaposition of the playfulness of the end of the room where the faux fur covered chairs and arc lamp are with the more formal seating group at the fireplace . Very pretty room. I LIKE the architectural print you have over the sofa . I do think it would be great to add a touch of soft gold into this area ( much like your mirror frames ) with a glass and gold coffee table like you mentioned. I think the print over the sofa is really interesting - would be nice to frame it in a dark wood like your consoles .I think it could live easily with a colorful piece of art over your fireplace. I think the peacock art would be FABULOUS there !!!

Meant to say if using the peacock art over the fireplace ( like that it is vertical - across from the horizontal print over the sofa ) I think that should also be framed -in black or maybe gold ? . I do not think the chairs should be moved closer to the fireplace ( because all the furniture would then be around the perimeter of the room ) - rather keep them in their current spot the way they are positioned or (try) just angled toward the sofa slightly. A large pot of greenery would be nice on the right end of the left console and would serve to cover the lighting cord , as well.

I agree with others that you are off to a great start. You simply need finishing touches of accent. RED! Add an orangey shade of red to make the room pop. Pillows, red in the artwork, maybe vintage glassware in the form of bowls or vases. Have fun with it! And, go for varying shades of red. Mix it up! Artwork, pillows, glassware, ceramics.

After a few sleepless nights agonizing over this room, I am starting to feel better thanks to all of you. Based on the landscape pictures suggested above, I found these pillows. I'm leaning toward muted colors since I'm not much for bright colors. Not sure if the combos work. For example, does the blue with white stitching coordinate with the blue floral? I'm loving both the blue/turquoise and the orange/raspberry schemes. Again, I'm not the best at this and now that I look at them posted on screen I feel like I should have more raspberry than orange in the secondary pillow set. And if I go with the orange/raspberry pillows can I still keep my existing blue/silver geometric rug??? Also including a pic of the coffee table. Simple gold and glass. My sofa is 76". I read somewhere that the table should be 1/2 - 2/3 the length so that means I should stick between 38-43".

I love that blue floral pillow! And those top 3 look great together. I prefer the blues to the oranges myself. But interesting combos! (I personally find pillow choosing/mixing totally overwhelming!)

niccidhg... The black and white print over the sofa is a thick canvas and impossible to frame. I am debating whether I should move it elsewhere in the house. We have some concerns drilling into the fireplace. It's newly tiled and has a bit of a rough surface which might cause it to crumble. I would like to find a lightweight print and hang using heavy duty command strips just in case I don't like it.

Totally understand your concerns about the fireplace . Don’t blame you for feeling that way . I would as well, in that case . As far as the sofa print - I really like it ,as it is, and in that spot .My thought on framing it was pretty secondary to the grand scheme of the room. It adds some depth to the more narrow part of the room I think.

Reason I was going to replace it with the landscape print is to introduce color in that area. Also, in person the lamps look very petite under the grand canvas so I was going to swamp them out with something a tad bigger.

With regard to the fireplace, I have thought of adding either greenery to the planter or stacked birch logs. Still undecided.

You have exquisite taste, but your room could use a pop of yellow and some living plants! I would use one of the round mirrors at the fireplace, but only if it isn't too much wider than the firebox. Use the other one elsewhere or sell it and invest the money in art. Art over the two cabinets will add life. The two pieces flanking the window look a bit dull. I would warm up the area at the fur chairs with a colorful rug. Since the chairs are leggy, they should sit entirely on it.

decoenthusiaste... Many thanks for your suggestion. The firebox is 32" and the mirror is 39". UGH. My husband thinks we can use them elsewhere in the house. Maybe the hallway or spare bedroom. I do have another gold framed mirror that I can hang vertically if it's not too heavy. Our fireplace tile is rough and drilling into it might cause it to crumble. Do you think I should start another pillow search or swap the solid blue and blue stripe for a yellow in the picture I posted? Would I keep the art over the cabinets similar? Yes, looking into plants... will most likely have to go with faux since we haven't had any luck maintaining live plants in this room.

You might get two pieces of art by the same artist, but really take your time and buy something real that you love, not the big box store stuff. Try the local university art department and see what's going on there. A canvas will probably be lighter to hang at the FP. If you have the budget you can actually contract experts to come in and care for your plants. Do add some yellow; you already have black and every room can benefit by a touch of those two colors - one to ground and one to pop.

Does anyone know the correct size rectangular coffee table to use with a 76" sofa that is 21" from floor to cushion? I'd like to purchase the Leona from Pottery Barn, it is 44" wide and 18" high. Many thanks!

Someone suggested I use the patterned pillows to relate the chairs in the front of the room to the sofa area.

Never saw the arched doorway - was not in other pics. , but it seems all the more reason to keep the print currently over the sofa .

It's a front to back living room, 30 feet long x 13 feet wide, with only one doorway near the front of the room. It's been very challenging trying to figure out where to put the furniture.
