Need photos.

Thanks!!! The two chairs are going out - I hate them- so I hAve a chance to replace them and rethink this space. Wondering how/if I can get more seating here. A baby grand piano is coming so this is likely the only “group” seating in the room.

Will you be using this space as an area to sit and chat? Or would it more likely be used for one or two people to sit and do quiet activities like read, listen to piano, knit, use technology?

I'm thinking that you could turn the bookshelf so it is on the wall to the left of the fireplace. Put a chair in the corner formed between the stair wall and the bookshelf, angled slightly toward the dining room entrance. Put a second chair on the other side of the fireplace. Position a floor lamp near each chair. Use a backless upholstered bench in front of the fireplace approximately where your small stool is; it will serve as seating to gaze at the fire or to take off/put on shoes or you could group the chairs closer together in front of the fireplace and use the bench with a tray as a coffee table for entertaining.

I like the idea of a bench - will having 4 chairs there just be too crowded? What do folks think about two love seats?

In order to know, we'll need a floor plan with dimensions and doors/windows labelled. The amount of space you show in this one photo doesn't show room for two love seats or four chairs, but we can only see a small bit of the room. Remember you can't block your stairs; stepping down into the back of a loveseat won't work.

Hmmm - thanks for your help. If can provide additional pictures tomorrow. We will be adding a baby grand in the opposite corner so I would like thoughts on that too. More tomorrow! Thanks everyone
