I like the matching mirrored stands. They're a bit taller, more substantial, and fit the space better, it looks like the trim color matches perfectly. I'm glad it's all come together so well for you! You have great taste, worked hard and have really transformed thie room. Will we get to see the bathroom too?

I like photo 3 with the small mirrored night stand plus the cream one to which you will add a mirrored top. I would paint the swing arm lamps cream. I believe you have some extra drapery panels, from which I hope you will make some shams and a bed runner.

I think that the small mirrored night stand and the cream one with a mirrored top are close enough in height to look great on either side of the bed. Since you're using swing arm lamps it's not critical that the height be precisely the same. I think that LB understood that in her statement above since she approved all your options. But if she did not, I hope she'll voice any concern.

I just happen to like the visual view of the symmetry that I see and just a preference of mine. I like same height end tables.:) As far as the table choices, I like all of them, meaning whatever losthorizonlisa decides. They all work well with the room.

The main reason I was wavering on the larger chest was because of storage. That said, I'm trying to thin out all my belongings, and hiding them inside is probably NOT what I'm aiming for. When I found the smaller mirrored stand, I planned to pair it with the cream... but you know how that is... second thoughts, pros/cons, fear of choosing wrong... lol

Oh yes... I was looking at spray paint today for the lamps! Didn't think of cream... was looking a the brushed nickel, Really liking the white trim in room now... if I stay with white trim, will cream table and lamps still be ok?

Yes, cream table and lamps will be fine with white trim. I like the smaller mirrored table and the cream one because they are not as heavy, visually, as the larger night stands. They give an airier look to the room.

Brushed nickel is fine for the lamps also.

My feeling is any table that is mirrored will not feel heavy, with or without drawers. The reflection does a trick with the eye.

I rather like the current color of the swing arm lamps, with the painted cord covers. If you want to paint them a cream or ivory, you might want to consider purchasing new shades, adding ribbon or stenciling, because I think you find them too boring all plain cream and white.... :-)

What color paint looks good with creamy almond cupboards

So far so good. Stay in the linen colors for walls. Night stands big tall and best type. No more sea shells. Less is more. There is a nice color paint called muffin tan by Ben Moore.

And regarding my original thought... when I said "Ocean theme" I was really thinking OCEAN and not beachy. Will post a photo of an inscription given to me one time if I find it unpacking... basically... I'm part sea and part land, but really neither. We kayak and scuba and sail off and near shore. I absolutely love Catalina Island above and below water for instance... the sea grass there, the varying blues, rocks and mountains, secluded beaches... the silence underwater and peace...

Love the sham accent to tie in the drapes. For peaceful, I wouldn't add anymore strong color. Love the artwork. Maybe a softer throw color in blue or green. I would paint the wall lamp bases white to keep the room soft and soothing. i think the lamps need better balance for color overall.

bathroom.... paint vanity? if so what color? aqua towels instead of sand / beige?

You could add a ribbon color at top and bottom of the wall lamp shades in a soft blue or green that works with a softer throw color.

LB, great suggestions! I knew something was a bit off with the strong color top and bottom of bed. And ribbon colors... yes, i can see it. yeah! off to fabric store.

I've just read your whole discussion, and love the color you've chosen. I think that with such a high headboard, I'd actually pain the wall the bed is against a deeper slate blue, much like the pic just above with the 4 colors of the ocean. It serves to give importance to that wall, especially since it's not the wall you first see when you walk in.

For my 2 cents, I love your 2 rustic-like chests. I personally think 2 mirrored night stands are too much. A little for eclectic tastes, but then go back to a wood based table like LB Interiors suggested. They will tie in, as they are opposite walls. It's also a bit more masculine, for the man of the house! lol.

I think your swing arm lamps are super! Just add a thick chunky canvas like ribbon in a watery blue, just a tad deeper than the wall color. Choose a color that matches your magnificent fabric. I'd make a long runner and 2 Euro Shams. Then add 2 lovely ivory king shams in a similar matelassé fabric to complement your bedspread.

I agree with an earlier post who recommended a coral as an accent. It's fresh, somewhat oceanic, and very current. Make a single neckroll pillow or some type of pillow with that color. Then, I'd replace your curtains. I'm sorry; I love them, but they're too heavy for the small room. Find a nice soft ticking stripe in a watery blue and white. It will look organic and light, and airy. Put them on grommets or rings so they're easy to open and close. I'd even use a bit of ribbon in that same coral to edge the inside line of the curtain panels, so your fingers grab the coral color as you close, eliminating "grubby finger" marks on the ticking stripe panels.

I also think a bench between the 2 chests is perfect, and I also think some legs are in order, not too heavy, to offset the 2 solid chests. Find a deeper blue rough type texture that wears well, and also will match the deeper headboard wall.

I think the chests need differing décor. They already match, and I think the one in the corner could use some beachy reeds in a tall blue vase, with some manly jewelry caddy to hold wallet, watch, coins, keys, etc. Then, on your side, be more feminine and pic some glitzy mirrored jewelry box or something with some bling. Again, maybe a large pitcher or tall photo placed on that chest would be sweet! You can still layer it behind with a large, and I mean large, square canvas on each side. Something that evokes the ocean, but not literally. Have them be similar, but not a match. I can search if you like the idea. Don't frame them; keep them more rough and just painted on the edges.

I love the look you're going for. It seems as I read the posts, you're evolving from a literal ocean theme to more of an ocean "feel" with colors more than objects. I'd use some of your photos, but mix in some like the art you posted just above. A little contemporary with your natural beach will be perfect!

You have great style, and I think your style has really evolved after talking to everyone. Just listen to yourself. It will be great. I think you can save some of the photos you have of the bath, and maybe go a little more literal beachy in there.

I love the picture of the picture you posted, the sand and beautiful blues. You won't need to put that under glass and could frame it in a wooden cream colored frame. It looks as though your towels are sitting on the commode. A light colored basket right there and you could mix in some white or darker blue towels rolled up with the tans you have.
I'm in agreement with LB regarding the curtain fabric for shams, again, looks great. But I still LOVE your blue and cream coral fabric. Maybe that would work for a bed throw if you haven't yet decided where you'll use it.
I think you could paint the cabinets and replace the hardware. Something darker than the walls but in the same tones. I love Provence for your bathroom in chalk paint.

What a great post and what awesome designer friends you have made... I'd love to see some soft cream colored light filtering romans to pull out the bedding color and soften up those windows. I wouldn't go with a room darkening if it was me as you obviously love the light and the airy room feeling you have with the clear windows... just had to add something to this incredible post! I'd stick with your trim color (white or off white) for the vanity in the bathroom. No need to introduce another color there.

I forgot about your coral design print, two tone blue fabric. I posted that I loved it when I saw it the first time. Can you use that for the throw. Same blue for ribbon on the lamp shades.

Well, there's not a lovelier way to spend a few hours before work on a Wednesday morning. I HATE to admit it... but I'm not really liking the curtains so much anymore. (plus there's probably a little bit of "hey! new FABRIC!" coming out.)

THEN I remember I bought a bolt of white linen 2 decades ago at an event planners estate sale. It has made curtains in 4 homes for me... some stayed behind and some came with.
Not sure if I have enough for both windows... but this one was actually already sewn into a double width curtain (so could split back to two... cross fingers that I have another one just like it...what do you think? The room does need something to block out city lights at night... why are city folk such fraidy cats about the dark anyways?

And don't go "ughhhhh" on me when I tell you this.... I called the upholsterer this morning to get a quote on the coral fabric on headboard... .the original quote was to completely construct one WITH deep tufting. I'm praying that my simpler design might vastly reduce my price... she asked me to send off pics and she'd get back to me. What do you think about the fabric draped over? see pic above...Gorgeous, huh? And it was the original intent of the fabric when I got it.

I'm still searching for that linen seashell print I told you about... I think I have 2 or 3 yards of it.
And re: white linen curtain... i can see a vertical stripe on the inner edge? how wide? ribbon or fabric? I have a sewing machine and love fusion tape!

Alrighty! The coral fabric in blue/cream would look smashing on the headboard; the only word of caution I would say is that it commits you to the ocean theme, and would be difficult to change out in a few years if you tire of it. Otherwise, if you truly love it, do it! I think the white linen curtains look WONDERFUL! And they look much like the feel I think you're going for!! It's so breezy and fresh. I still think you could add a strip of ribbon on the inside edge, running from top to bottom. (ribbon has more texture and is easy to sew on) I'd look for a 1" to 1 1/2" color in the watery blue, a tish darker than your wall color. I'm attaching a few. They range from refined to rough, depending on your curtains. I can help you find these, if you have a hard time. grosgrain, cotton stripe, haberdashery cotton tape, twill ribbon tape, respectively.

Then, if you find the seashell print, you can make the euro shams from it, maybe? Whatever trim color you choose for your curtains, repeat that color/feel on the bed throw that you should fold at the end of your bed, like Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design suggested.

I reread my earlier post, and I don't think I was clear. I would definitely keep one of the mirrored pieces, but then use the white round wood table with the lower shelf. They're light and keep the room from being weighted down. It gives you some bling, but also some cottage/country/beach feel as well.

Love the lighter panels on the window. You had some linen drapes in the living room but they were darker, I like these in the bedroom. Your lamps and shades look even better in the room now.
I like the way your current headboard looks against the wall and the sand color of it and think your coral fabric would make the perfect bed blanket. If you don't have enough fabric perhaps cover a bench with it? DIYs for making a bench on the Internet.
Bolts of linen you forgot about?! You are a very creative lady, I admire your confidence with DIY projects. Most posters shoot use down when we suggest something as minor as changing a drawer knob and here you go thinking of adding ribbon to the drapes you'll make! I love it. I think that's why this thread has been so interesting, plus you've been open to everything, every post and idea.

Well, a new idea huh? I love the fabrics and how you get creative with all your stashed fabrics. Wanting a breezy, beautiful room, airy oceany feeling ... I like the softness and crispness of the white drapes. I love the blue and white coral print fabric. Agree with 'westtx' about may get tired of the pattern for headboard.

I would use the blue coral print for shams, drape trim and possibly the throw too. Maybe you can trim blue coral fabric 4" bands on the drapes (along the sides or across the heading) to carry the color to the window wall. The small pillow is perfect to work with all of the other choices and the headboard. I think you have an overall softer and fresher feeling for the room.

Trim and commode stark white... if I paint cabinet white, won't it "jump" into the room? would one of the sandy colors in tile work... it would mesh with the sand like feel of the carpet? or am I thinking wrong?

Love that you have some treasures that we haven't seen yet. Display them to show your personality in the room. They don't need to be hidden away somewhere.

It must be a sign... either my photos never got to the upholsterer or she never called me back. Hmmm, you guys are correct about being committed to the fabric once it's a headboard... it is nice and neutral right now. I'm thinking keep 5 feet of it as a coverlet (?... whatever was suggested previously by Carolyn?). Maybe with the left over I can cover cording to trim out the bed? I wish I could show the fabric as shams AND coverlet without cutting it... :(

Westtx... really love those particular ribbon colors... I've seen some pics where people have used a medium blue with Rainwashed walls... It's similar to the lamps in my NEXt indoor project... redoing the french country living room to match my pricey blue & white lamps (chinoiserie?).

Here are some evocative photos from a place we kayak 2 months every year....the sunsets are obviously phenomenal! and the daytime is very bright! which is why it's feeling that the white curtains are feeling better to me. The blues are all over the place depending on the day...

I agree that the oak color of the bath vanity dates the room. I also think a white is too stark, not the feel you want. I'd paint it a lovely color of warm buttery toffee. Behr makes "toffee crunch", which is perfect. Then, go to this website and tackle glazing the cabinet. It will give it the warm contrast you want from the tile, but still go with the rest of the bedroom. Use Ralph Lauren's tobacco, instead of a black, as the black will be too dark. Not too many places sell it, but it's not too hard. I've given a site that shows where I just got mine. You use Kilz oil based spray, probably using 2 cans. Then paint the color you choose, 2 coats. Next, glaze softly and remove until the tones you want are there. Then, finally paint a satin sealant. It will be wonderful!

Finally replace pulls with either beachy knobs or whatever matches your bath fixtures. Then, place your pictures, photos, etc, grouped much like you had in your bedroom. It will be warm and inviting! Then just place some plush towels in the sand and ocean colors!

Voila! Magic!

wow I love the photos! You should take your fave and blow it up, and have it mounted on a canvas, and hang as huge a canvas as will fit on a wall in your bathroom, or take 2 and do the same thing on square canvases, and mount them above the chests in the bedroom. I'm thinking one of the top and one of the bottom pics.

I think if you found just the right shade of sand it would look wonderful. I suggested chalk paint because it sticks without any prep work - you know in a bathroom with perfumes and sprays there probably some residue on the cabinets. Below is an example of Ochre and Arles a pale grey and pale yellow/tan

Found it! Here's the seashell fabric. It is 56 inches wide. I have 2 pieces: one is 4.5 YARDS and the other is 1 YARD. It's laid against the coral print. Options?

I would keep the headboard as is...and use one of the fabrics as roman shades with your white fabric as drapes (if there is enough of the white material) You could then use the coral material as a bedskirt and perhaps pillow shams :-)

That's a pretty cool fabric. Ok. I'm revising my thoughts a bit, based on the look/feel of your newfound fabric. Perhaps use the coral textured fabric as the bed throw at the end of the bed, and for euro shams. Then, use the tortoise/shell fabric for neckroll or square pillow; also use it to make drapes in your bathroom. Maybe get little rings with pinch clips; super easy to pull open and closed. It think it's important to tie the 2 rooms together, especially if the feel is similar, and colors travel from one room to the other. If you have enough, go ahead and make a bedskirt from it. If not, find a warm blue the same as the shells and tortoise for a bed skirt. The solid color will actually ground the bed better. Good luck! keep posting progress! :)

Found one more fabric... it's a plain silk in similar color to original curtains. I've paired all three for pic. There are three (3) yards of it. There's a definite change in color depending on viewing angle...

Keeping headboard as is. 95% sure I'll use coral as bed throw... reverse side material? and cord or fringe on ends? Up in air on Shams, curtains (prefer the light linen, but thinking how to dress look up) and bedskirt.

Stamps...love the idea of roman shades with one of the fabrics... great way to use limited fabric, plus I need room darkening capability.

I'll mock up fabric as bedskirt, shams and curtains this weekend to get opinions.

I think I have exhausted my supply of hoarded fabric that might work...Did find some GREAT fabrics for the living room project though!

p.s. There is enough white linen to make curtains... not full, but as stationary on sides, enough I think.

Now that really has punch. How about using that as a band on the inner edges of the linen curtains, all 4 panels, instead of a ribbon? It's kinda flimsy by itself, so maybe add a coarse cotton strip and cover with the silk. I'd make it 2" wide, to give substantial punch! Then, take some left overs and make another pillow for the bed. Whatever adornments you choose for the end of the throw can also be placed on the edges of your new blue satin pillow. I'm attaching some short, shiny classy fringed pillows for examples. It shows how you can make your bed pillows pop. It could be a darker blue or an ivory to match curtain panels. And if you have any left over, run the "banded edge" theme of the silk around the shell drapes you make in the bathroom. ? I think it will all tie in. This is REALLY coming together!

I made thermal shades for a place we lived in with single pane windows... It is the same as making a roman shade but you add felt or thin batting and plastic (since you live in a temperate climate, you can skip the plastic). The felt will give your shade the ability for room darkening, which I have done as well. :-)
I like the white bedspread, it would look even better with one of your patchwork quilts folded like in one of your photos. You could use the blue material as draperies, paired with the cream print and do a "box" bedskirt (with pleats only at the corners) from the coral fabric (and pillow shams or a throw pillow), if there is enough.... This will give you a multi-layered look with plain and prints combined, I hope this helps :-)

I did some mock ups this morning. That darned gray cat mussed up the covers...

1) Someone mentioned putting 2 matelasse pillow shams on... I HAD them already! what do you think?

2) Imagine the linen seashell fabric on the window as romans... pull up straight and crisp? or sag a bit in middle? windows 36'' wide and about as deep... room is dark already, I'm thinking straight across. Inside or outside mount? will def put lining on.

3) Coral upholstery as coverlet folded into thirds.

4) Solid silk shown as 1 or 2 pillows... i draped the fabric around 16' squares from living room.

How's it look? If this is good to go, then I still have to figure out:

a) does cording go around all 4 edges on coverlet? It seems so from memory in hotels... should I make the reverse side the tan or blue from the front? or something else?

b) trim for white curtains... I'm thinking inner edges only and solid blue to match darkest blue in fabrics. There's been different suggestions on this part... from 1" to 4"... ????

c) square pillows in blue solid.... one or two? small like shown or euro size? trim type?

d) still have skirt and lamps and accessories to address... thanks everyone!

golly, you've been busy!

1. Use the matelassé shams, definitely.
2. Straight across for Roman shades so print will show, and inside mount. It won't be pulled by drapes when raising and lowering.
3. Love coral fabric as coverlet. Use solid light blue that matches the front, since the matelassé spread is already light. And put cording or fringe on edges only. It will look mussed up when folded across end of bed if you use it on all 4 sides, which is where it will be during the day when the lights are on.
4. Can you use the solid silk for 2 large Euro shams? Is there enough? I think you need color between tan headboard and matelassé shams.
5. If you have enough, use shell print and a bit of blue silk mixed for a single looong neckroll or 2 dissimilar shaped small pillows in front of the matelassé. use tassels, cording and fringe, if possible.
6. I agree, trim on the inner edges of curtains, and 2". 1" not enough, and the windows are too thin to make it wider than that. It might swallow the window, and you want it to highlight, not overtake.
