I would say three 6" pendants would look more balanced than 2. I think they are a little small to just have two of them over the island.

I agree with Design Connection. 2 - 6" pendents would fit best on your 5' island. You don't want them too look like they are crowding over your island. If you want 3 - 6" pendents, they will be about 12" apart form each other. What I would recommend for you to do is cut 6" long strips of paper and hang 2 or 3 of them from your ceiling. Once you set them up, step back and see what you would like best. Or go for a single light fixture, like below, that has multiple pendents but doesn't have a huge foot print. Good luck!
