I like your fireplace the way it is, and like the idea that the tv will somewhat disappear once installed. A few things to think about: white painted stone is very trendy, which means it will trend out soon - once painted, it is almost impossible to restore, and, the tv will look like a bit hole against the white paint. I would live with it for awhile and see if it grows on you. It's not hard to paint, so you can do it with a furnished space.

No don't paint that lovely stone fireplace. It ties in nice with the black window frames. Once you paint you can never go back. Painted stone look cheap and awful. To keep it looking white you have to keep on painting it and the more you paint it the worse it looks. Just accessorize the fireplace with light colors. Maybe find another place for your TV, The stone fireplace is the star of the room not the TV. I wish Joanne Gaines with her silos of white paint would go away. God knows how many fireplaces and homes she has destroyed with her painting stone and brick that never should never of been painted. Geeze, the lady doesn't even has a degree in design or even gone to school for it.

Totally agree with Grover! Remove the stone from the side walls if possible :)

After noticing the angle going up the wall, it's probable that removing those will make for a neater look, not jumbled.

For comparison, if you were in love with this look, with soft paint colors: a light fireplace would be great.

I totally agree with the stone on 1 wall that groveraxel did. That will be a huge improvement.

I like the stone color as is for now. Once it's painted that's it. It is very hard, if even possible to get it back to the original stone color.

No! Don't paint that lovely stone. How about installing some recessed lights that wash light down the fireplace. Right now I don't see any recessed lighting.

I do like groeraxle's suggestion to remove stone from the two surrounding walls.

It's not terrible. Definitely have seen worse. It is a dark, depressing gray and I can see why you'd want to get rid of it; changing its vibe is going to take some decorating finesse.

I would change it but not with paint.

How has your limewash held up?! Did you keep that pretty wall color? I painted half my stone fireplace with chalk paint in linen white and it is stark white

I was going to suggest the same thing that groveraxle seems to have suggested - eliminate the stone on the side walls. The stone appears to be thin veneer that is likely glued in place. Instead of painting I might suggest using a German smear technique similar to the photo posted below.

If you do anything consider a limewash opaque white
