I'm in favor of painting brick, sometimes. There are a few things I would do first if this were my house. 1) Remove all of the shutters. They're not sized properly for the windows. 2) If at all possible, add wider trim around all of the windows. 3) Remove the large shrubs that are obscuring the left side of your house. 4) Beef up the support columns. 5) If the circular vent above the portico has to stay, paint it out to match the body color. As others have said, keep in mind that you'll have to maintain the brick as you would any other exterior painted surface. Make sure you choose the correct product. I believe there are paints available that allow the brick to "breath". Good luck with your project!

I think painting the brick will make it look monolithic. The brick gives it texture and grounds it.

I agree the shrubs on the left need to be pruned.

So many other things need to be done first before you ruin that house and increase maintenance for yourself.

Before committing to painted brick, which will require regular maintenance, make other curb appeal changes. Remove the shutters, beef up window trim, do some landscaping, and beef up the porch columns.

I think the house could use an update like this! I might select a less yellow white though, to contrast the beige shutters. You can maintain the texture despite painting the brick, of course it changes the aesthetic but it will really brighten up your home, which will allow the greenery to stand out more. Very nice house and I love the 50's look and feel. Columns are too small. Your house has an intentional thin line design about it, i.e.; roof line, shutters, roof pitch but the columns are just too small - toothpick like. They should be smaller than typical to fit the house design but feel out of proportion and skimpy. Should be another half as wide larger.

I agree a taupe or sage would look nice. need to see it bare first I just wanted to give you an idea of what everyone was getting at.

Don't create a maintenance problem. It will get old very quickly.

I think a soft, sage green for the siding.

I am not a lover of green paint anywhere, but, I do think a soft sage green like torreykm is suggesting would look very nice on your house.

Or remove the brick. I am in SHOCK, maybe there were issues with the brick it was obviously not structural but a house around the corner removed all their brick and put in siding. The amount of STUPID and expense is over whelming to me. Why add maintenance, why DECREASE you home value...Leave your brick alone. Work with it. That FAD is one that just needs to GO AWAY!!!
