how to update the front porch?

We moved into our house a year ago, and while we originally liked the use of stone veneer on our front porch and column, we are not a fan of the orange hue. As we are replacing the door, it looks outdated and limit the the color we can do on the door.

1. Is it possible to stain/paint the veneer? Where do I find professional for that?

2. Anyone has other ideas for what to do? (We are trying to keep cost low, and not replace all the sidings)

Could we see the house from further back . I am not a fan of the veneer on the posts at all. What is the new door like? That victorian one sure does not suit what i can see.

I think changing the front doors out for something super-simple and not at all ornate will make a huge difference.

Maybe paint the door trim white to harmonize with the window trim and other white trim on the house. Shaker or slab - style front doors with a square or rectangular window in a darker shade of grey.

Like your front door. Entrance itself looks good; however, not a fan of that huge post in the foreground.

Would leave the stone veneer on the exterior wall of the house itself but rip it off that too large "square" post and clad the actual support post -- whether it be a large wwoodpost or a large metal post -- with wood boards, perhaps a natural wood finish to match your front door, and, to the extent possible, decrease overall size of the support post.

I like the stone and the stone pillar but do not like the front doors or the window above.

I was hoping someone else had some great ideas for the OP as we have a similar elevation...small front stoop, giant window over the door, and a single, two story column that seems out of proportion. Ugh, 90s architecture!

Op has disappeared after several people asked for more photos...

Thanks all for comments! Great feedback esp the white window frame

Here’s a picture from afar. We are just slowly updating the house, starting with as door and the. exterior color. Want to make sure all the changes will fit together!

Still hope to see if anything has other ideas on staining the stone veneer.

The stone veneer is totally inappropriate on this facade, tear it off and replace with more of the hardi siding. The front door is too ornate for the house as well.

Thanks - and would you suggest white vinyl wrap for the post?

Based on a couple photos I would remove all the stone around the door and window, as well as off the column. The door wall gets replaced with horizontal hardi siding to match the house, I can't really determine what would be best for the column either wrapping it all smooth and white or installing siding on it as well.

I would take off the stone on the column and wrap it with vertical Hardie planks. Replace the front door with a contemporary door with side lights. Darken the trim around the window and then assess the stone wall.

Here is how I'd do the column.
