My new table top greenhouse

Have to share some pics of the table top greenhouse my husband made for me :) He took a combination of scrap items we had and came up with this combination work table/greenhouse for me. The greenhouse top lifts up in the front via pulley system he made and using bamboo filled with sand and rocks for weights - sort of Swiss Family Robinson style! Since these pics, I've added some shade cloth on the inside of the top, but still need to work on adding venting from this scorching heat. I'm starting some seeds now for the heck of it. Not sure how much I will use over winter, but know this will be very handy for seed starting in the spring. And below the table top is a large storage area. Love the doors on it for hiding it all - so much neater than my other table I was using!

I picked up a small heater that has an adjustable thermostat at the thrift store for $3, and tried it out last night in the greenhouse - just setting it so it stays in low 40's. It's doing nicely to keep a few outdoor potted plants in there that I didn't want to freeze :)

Indeed, watch that ventilation carefully. I was really surprised in my first such endeavor by how quickly it would heat up.

Oh yeah, that would be nice gjcore! Going to put in a small exhaust fan this weekend to ventilate it, so I don't have to keep it open during the day. Good to be testing it out right now, because a couple of times when I forgot to leave it open, the temp inside without ventilation got into the 100s - despite that, somehow, a few of my California Poppy seeds have survived and are sprouting!! But I do mainly plan to use it for plants during the spring and maybe some in the fall/early winter. When I'm not using it as a greenhouse, it's nice to have the top covered to keep it clean from flying leaves, etc. I also spray painted something and left it in there for awhile to finish drying during the heat of the day - so double duty! lol
