Are you referring to the coping around the pool?

It all depends on how the coping is connected to your pool. It's a professional job IMO. Is that a vinyl liner pool? Maybe there are drawing for the section involving the coping. I've seen coping replaced.but on curves it's nothing but angled coping pavers that have to be cut to fit.

I would consult a residential engineer to make sure it won't damage the actual pool shell and cause a huge headache. How old is your pool?

It appears you have a fiberglass or vinyl liner over steel. There is probably "X Bracing" under the concrete, which is a stabilizer. It is part of the concrete pour or just under the pour. Do not break out that concrete without consulting with the original installer of the pool. If you do not know who they are or they are not available you should consult with a pool contractor.

You can remove the concrete but you have to be very careful at the edge of the pool. This is a vinyl pool and the "coping" is probably plastic. It acts as a bead receptor for the liner and also and edge for whatever patio surface is installed-typically poured concrete like what you presently have.

This coping is screwed down to the top edge of the pool and the back side will have stiffening ribs that the concrete will grab onto. This is the tricky part removing the concrete carefully without damaging the coping. The edge of the fiberglass step must also be addressed carefully.

There will be a lot of debris during the demo so putting a tarp on the pool will prevent most of the chips, etc.. from getting in the pool.

If your intent is to have a stone coping that overhangs the pool edge, you would have to change the step to a cantilever type (yours presently has a bull nose profile), temporarily remove the liner from the bead receptor/coping, install a new top track bead receptor, pour a concrete base and set the coping. Yes, big job.

Or simply remove the concrete and run your paver stone behind the existing coping and step. Check the height of the coping to the thickness of a paver to ensure they can match up or modify the paver to do so.

Not all vinyl pools have the deck supports installed during construction. They are installed to allow for pouring of concrete patio upon completion rather than waiting for the fill material to settle around the pool. They are not necessary and actually serve no purpose when installing paver stones for a patio and are not a structural necessity for the pool itself.

The bracing will run at a 45 degree angle and is anchored as part of the concrete collar poured around the pool perimeter at the wall's base. The concrete is a code requirement.
