Kitchen design ideas? Short term home

last modified: 8 years ago

Hi all, me again!

You all had some great ideas last time and since then I have found a new place for all of our travel magnets that were on the fridge and we have updated to stainless appliances (fridge is coming soon).

--I am getting barstools and was thinking to paint under the bar a dark blue/navy color? Should i also do that color on the back kitchen wall (where fridge is?) Or any other color options?? I included a pic of our living room since we have a lot of blues in there.

--Changing high top table for window seated farmhouse style table (some window seals are out so we are getting new windows next month) just waiting until they're done installing.

-- Changing chandelier to recessed lighting since it wont be center over the table.

-- We are also retiling fireplace so it will be a bit more modern looking.

We recently purchased this home but plan to sell in about 2 years so looking for some updates but not crazy expensive- we are mid 20 year olds and this is our first home.. Any opinions are appreciated and welcomed.

** calendar on wall is coming down and small wine rack is going there.

Living room colors currently. *updating tile on fireplace and all fogged windows being replaced next month* Sorry for the dark photos.

Kind of for both! We would like to update it a bit for ourselves as well as resale value. We are trying to keep the updates as neutral as possible though.
I would still want to update the chandelier but the hook and positioning is a great idea, thank you!!

What mantel would you recommend? the straight bar (which is modern now) usually has the tile/stone continue up to the ceiling. We thought it would look weird to do a straight bar and stop the tile there, so we were going to paint existing mantel white and retile but i'm open to other ideas with that for sure. It's also gas so the mantel now hides the release under the left column,

I would change the door handle and hardware to match the color of hardware you have on your kitchen cabinets. I think painting navy on the bottom would look out of place. How about doing a wallpaper with the blue or navy? That would add some color and design pop you are looking for. Looking great!!

I forgot to add changing out your sink for a stainless or black sink.

    Thanks!!

We are going through the house changing all handles to the oil rubbed bronze and repainting all trim- we just havent reached the kitchen yet D:

Wallpaper is a good idea, I can take a look at that!
You think I should just leave the wall where the fridge is at it's current color? When we moved in the house was a DARK brown so we just painted everything a neutral color to start.

We are (eventually) going to do counters so at that time we will totally do the stainless sink, I agree there!

Bigger rug and move couch back closer to the wall.

I would do the wallpaper on the half wall first before deciding on the fridge wall. It definitely could be good but perhaps a color in the wallpaper will help you decide.

Looks good so far. Please don’t paint the bar front blue. Your room will look smaller. Buy some art and decor items instead. I would paint the fireplace and re-tile. If you were going to live there another 20 years I would do something different, but you’ll never recoup the cost if you won’t live there that long. And I wouldn’t paint the backsplash another color either. Hope that helps!

We agree with atromper, don't paint the bar front blue. It doesn't seem like that would work at all.
