Natalie93...look at the list of idea on this site, I think it was yesterday or Tuesday, but there was mention of how to decorate with purples and the different shade of them. Good luck with this and your floors.

Look at pottery barn kids or restoration hardware kids websites....they are showing lots of purple!

the cheapest thing you can do decorating wise is paint, so I vote for going purple! She will be thrilled and when you are both sick of it, you can just paint over it. Try Benjamin Moore Hidden Sanctuary on the walls, and accent with grays and whites for a very clean modern look.

There are tons of purples out there, so I'd suggest using several at once, from an eggplant to a pale lavender in the accessories like curtains, bedspread, pillows, rug, bean bag, art, etc. Not all purples are the cloying Barney purples, many are very sophisticated and look so great with so many other colors.

Why not select a nice cream color and use purple for items which are easily changed out:
Curtains, bedding, sheets, pillows, Area Rugs, etc?
You could even get a vintage dresser and paint it purple - or take a plain white laminate bookcase and paint the back panel purple.

When my daughter was 2, we painted her room a lovely lavender color, accented with pinks and white. A few years ago, we changed the accent color to celery green (new quilt, throw pillows and a painting she did) to make it less "baby" - her word. Now (at 11) she wanted a different look, so we painted the room a vivid apple green, with orange and brown accents. This was her birthday present, so she got to pick out all the colors, and her new bedding. She did a great job and had a great time, and to be honest, it was one of the more cost effective birthdays she's had. She needed new bedding anyway, and paint is cheap!

I say let your daughter have her purple room. By the time she's ready for a change, you'd probably be repainting anyway, even if you went with a neutral color.

Yes, go with your daughters choice of purple, but choose a shade that is more mature to suit your taste. Benjamin Moore has some great purples in their Affinity Collection, that will not become dated. You could go towards a Periwinkle Blue/Purple rather than an Easter purple

You could do a single purple accent wall in her choice of color (give her 3 choices of a color you can live with) and then do all the other walls in the neutral of your choice. I think she would be so giddy over the one purple wall that she wouldn't mind that they aren't ALL purple. Get a few purple pillows and a fluffy throw to tie it together with some neutral bedding. You don't have to go purple crazy to still give her what she wants. As she grows, all you have to repaint is just one wall and buy a few accessories. Don't be afraid to go bold- it's only one wall. Covering over a dark color isn't as hard as everyone makes it sound. Two coats of white and then 2 coats of the new color (I've covered pumpkin, eggplant and grass green in this fashion and repainted with a variety of colors, even light ones and it has never been a problem). The only thing hard to un-do is gloss. Stick with an eggshell finish every time or you'll have to sand your walls to get it off. Now THAT is a pain in the behind!

I had the same issue several years ago with my daughter. I picked a very dusty/grayish purple from Ben Moore with white wood furniture & moldings. Did the window treatments & bedding in a white & purple toile (very light purple) and accents colors were green & gray. Go as gray as you can to tone it down-she'll see purple but it will be one you can live with
