Moles and Hill Side — Any advice?

Good morning,

I’ve lurked these forums for many years and appreciate the wealth of knowledge, but now I have a specific issue with which I need help. I’m not sure this is right forum, but it seems most appropriate.

So, my wife and I bought a home on the side of a mountain two years ago. We’re in a neighborhood, but very spaced out and surrounded by trees. During our first spring, I noticed a few mole holes. I poisoned them and they appeared to go away. This spring they’re back in full force, and I assume they never actually went away.

My big problem: The mole holes are now diverting water from the natural stream behind our house and I’m afraid if enough dirt is removed, this could cause major erosion issues. We have large cedars in the back and I noticed the moles are digging holes all around the base.

My plan: remove the moles (using traps most likely); refill the holes (pour mud/slurry mix).

I’m sure I’m not the first person to have this problem, but I can’t seem to find much online.

Any advice?
