Yes a photo would be good. In general, try to keep bright like white tone colors to make the basement not look dark. Esp since the floors are dark I would recommend going some shades of a light color (pref white or half white). You could use grey in addition for contrast. Hope that helps.

One idea is to paint all the wood including the media cabinets and the wainscott a light tone of grey and the walls white. Do you want the columns/posts to stand our or blend in with the wall? If you want them to blend in then you can do them white. If you want them to stand out then you can do them grey too. Additional small tip:not necessary but if you wanted to, you could consider changing the round column to a white one so it matches the other to make it uniform. I think it's a great space with the nice flow and I think it will turn our beautiful :-)

I suggest you treat your dark basement as if it were a North facing room. Go warm with a color that will work with the dark floors. And, yes, paint the wainscoting white and the ceiling the same white, but in a flat finish….thinking B.M. Simply white because it, too, is a warm tone. As for the bar, paint the paneling white, but leave the counter as is and see how it looks. I would leave the tall wet bar piece in the stain. Yellow area rug…as in my inspiration photo.
