In many places, squash vine borers are having a field day getting plumped up on zucchini (well, at least the stems). Their porches are overflowing with zucchini riches.

My zukes failed to make it this far, same goes for the cukes and cantaloupes, All these plants seemed to have suffered from too much rain and thus various advantageous diseases. The tomatoes look terrible too but the later planted ones should keep us supplied ok, for a while. Oddly the peppers love it and the watermelons got a 2nd wind. ....but back to zuke day....

Actually, we have the biggest zuk plant we've had in 18-19 years of gardening! No compost, no fertilizer. Apparently just Great soil in this area that we moved to!

Planted 3 tomatoes that quickly out grew their normal sized cages, one japanese eggplant that is very prolific, and a couple of pepper plants that are producing way more than I ever got at my old place with 7 raised beds with compost each year.

I think living in town = less temperature swings and so far no freezes. I'm a happy camper! Nancy

I wish I knew about this in advance of the day because my mother kept trying to foist her excess zucchinis off on me.

Just pass them on to your neighbor! Tell them August 18th is leave a zuk on the porch day! ;)

Yes, well I’m putting it on my calendar for next year.

Well... not wanting to tempt the borers, I planted my zucchini July 4th. They just started bearing this week (which is a pretty impressive DTM from seed). We should still get at least a month of production before frost, but don't have enough to give away - yet.

Green beans though, been giving them away to anyone who will take them. It's been such a warm year that I might be giving away peppers before I start giving away zukes.

Good point. In SVB-infested areas, I'd make zuke give-away day in September (or maybe May?)
