don't replace with a black roof unless you like high energy bills during warm months. I'm assuming you have AC.

Since the roof is so prominent, I'd look at some designs using multiple colors or shapes like fishscale.

A black roof not only makes your house insanely hotter in the summer; it makes it colder in the winter.

The eco-friendly and temperature sane thing to get is a metal roof--aluminum, tin, copper, whatever--or white, but white's not for you.

We have a mansard roof VERY similar to yours....it was a shake roof when new. When we purchased the home, it had been replaced by shingles. 2 years ago, we had a bad hail storm and had to replace the roof....we chose shingles that looked very similar to shakes. They are not as pretty, but a darker brown that fits the style of the house more closely. I think black might overpower your home, but that is just my opinion. I love your home!
