Commenting to bump you up again! Paint cabinets, new countertop, new lighting, stainless or black appliances. Any help form anyone on best approach to paining oak cabinets?

The cabinets look almost orange on my monitor.

Since you have very bright white floors, I would avoid having the cabinets any lighter than they are. Contrast your floors with darker cabinets and a medium beige countertop. Stainless steel appliances would improve the look as well. Of course new cabinet hardware as well.
The color palette I'm imagining is in the image attatched.

Something darker like maple or cherry since you got white backsplash and floors.

Why not some venge color for the cabinets and steel appliances instead of the old ones? Does this room have an extension to the living room? You can consider something like a bar or island as I can see you have a lot of free space. Granite countertops won't be a bad idea either.

Love the look of the dark cabinetry - and looks like there is a room for an island too!

Wall paint and new lighting can also go a long way.

You could stain the cabinets an espesso color, add dark grey counter, mid-grey glass tile backsplash, to bring the look up to date.

There are several kits for painting cabinets but you can paint successfully without them, just do your research on blogs, Pinterest etc. Since the floors aren't changing I would go dark but you can also go medium gray and keep countertops, tie together with mosaic backsplash incorporating all colors used.

I'm a bit hooked on grey lately.. A nice medium grey cabinetry would give you all kinds of options for a counter top that would add a lot of pop to that room and pull someone's eyes away from that floor.. ;)

And of course.. stainless if you can afford it.

I think they could have pulled off a bit bolder counter top. And I'd recommend a nice light and bright single colored glass tile backslash.

Also, please remove that drop down trim piece connecting the cabinets connecting the sink flank wall cabs. It makes it look like a cave.

You could consider a more Scandinavian design with white/light cabinets and splashes of orange, red or blue for color. You already have the white fridge and floor.
