Like how often? Monthly? Weekly? Daily? (lol) I could do monthly. Weekly or daily, meh, prefer not.

Rosa 'Iceberg'. It is nearly thornless.

Iochroma 'Purple Queen', it will need some stakes to get it to grow vertically, and periodic trimming (2x-3x year) but provides nectar for hummingbirds and will bloom year round.

Salvia 'Amistad' will need periodic trimming (4x/year+ fertilizer 3-4x/year) but is another plant with purple flowers nearly year round that hummingbirds love. 6x6 is about right for it.

The Duranta cultivars, such as 'Sweet Memories', are thornless. However, they get over 10' tall, and are very vigorous growers (requiring aggressive weekly pruning if they are to be kept smaller).

Have you considered Arbutus 'Compacta'? Evergreen, 6-9'ish tall, takes shape pruning, white flowers followed by attractive fruit, and a tough plant. Ours loves the sandy soil in our yard.

I have a dwarf variety of crape myrtle, although of course it's deciduous. It's 6 feet tall at the most and less wide than that. I like its appearance even when bare in the winter.
