Grey and black can look great with red brick but it looks like you have a brown roof... and I don’t think it will play nicely with with black + grey. It would probably look better with some sort of green/grey or taupe. The creamy yellow siding is dated looking and picking a more modern colour will go a long way!

Is it in the budget to add a portico above the front stoop?

are you interested in painting the brick?

White or a deep tan would work. How about a fern green? I would paint the front door white, since it is covered partially by the storm door. I would also paint more the the trim under the bay windows white.

Thanks everyone! I hadn't though of a portico; would that look strange as the front door is a bit offcenter from the bay windows? Short term I at least want to add some nice sconces instead of the flood lights.

I think we want to give the brick a chance before making such a permanent decision like painting it. Hadn't thought of fern green, that would actually work well with the aesthetic of surrounding homes.

I played around with your front facade.

I think a center overhang across your front door and a lantern on just the right would actually help with the asymmetry. Not a gable end or anything that accentuates a center point, but perhaps a shedroof with simple corbels??. I'd be afraid that posts would emphasize the lack of symmetry.

As I was trying different things it seemed that double front doors in a dark tone would blend in better than what you have.

I think properly sized shutters work nicely on your house, but that darn brown roof is bossy. I tried the drawing in black, but I think a cream color with wood look shutters and wood look front doors would be better with your brown roof.

A wide landing the width of the overhang and a widened step and sidewalk would also look nice.

Thank you for this! I love the idea of the lantern just on the right, will do some research on the shed roof idea. And yes on the bossy brown roof! Unfortunately it's just barely a year old (previous owners replaced it right before they sold) so looks like we're stuck with it for a while...

This isn't the best example, but I think if you were willing to paint the brick you'd have a lot more beautiful options to spruce of your exterior. Red brick and a brown roof is a challenging combo. Here's a painted brick house ewith a brown roof.

The first color I thought of when I saw your home was a deep blue. A color similar to these, or darker:

Then, I'd do a pale ashy light blue for the shutters and trim. For the front door I would do a natural wood door.

A lot of houses in my neighborhood have a red brick like yours, and go with white siding and black trim. Very crisp and classic.

I agree with partim, I also think that using lots of color in the landscaping would stand out nicely against a white backdrop.

I'm so nervous about such a permanent decision like painting the brick, especially because I've heard you might have to repaint every few years.

I love the idea of a natural wood door.. .wish I were brave enough to do the blue. Strangely enough, that shade of blue is actually very popular in our neighborhood with houses with a slightly different shade of brick.

Jill, here are photos of some homes with brown roofs that are white and have black shutters. I agree that it's not the norm, but I still feel it would work if a black door and shutters are what you prefer. Good luck. You have a beautiful home and will look wonderful in whatever color you choose to paint it. :-)

Can you post a photo that shows the entire front facade of the house from the left corner all the way to the front of the garage? I’m trying to get a sense of how much of the garage roof you see next to the rest of the house.

The roof and brick look very similar in the photo. If they are, I think you have a lot more choice when it comes to color. I like this palette suggested above. Dark gray-blue with off white trim and a wood door.

I would suggest painting siding a color very close to color of brick. It would make the house look bigger and not cut it in half visually. A creamy trim would then work well. Maybe someone could photo shop that concept for you.

I did mockup with the same color for body and cream/beige for shutters and door. I find Flo idea is very reasonable, not cut house in half.

If you decide to paint the siding the color of the brick, do be careful and try out some big sample boards. There are a few examples in my neighborhood of attempted matching that was "off", and it isn't a good look. Matching is challenging with the difference in textures between the brick and the siding.

I think a dark, contrasting color could be cool. Like this Sherwin Williams palette; the brick represented by copper wire.

Thx celerygirl! I think i would add sone feature like dovecot or faux vent to break up span between windows on second floor.
