Lawn Care Garden

Centipede or St. Augustine?

I could use some help identifying what type of lawn this is. If I read the identification guides correctly, this would be St. Augustine because it has opposite leaves (as opposed to alternate leaves with Centipede). However, several people have told me that St. Augustine doesn't grow here (Central North Carolina, with clay soil).

Any help? See attached pictures.

Probably a St. Augustine cultivar called 'Raleigh', tolerant to colder temperatures than the species. It was actually discovered in a yard in Raleigh and cloned by NC State.

Thanks guys. I didn't know that about the Raleigh cultivar. That pic dchall sent looks just like what I've got (bottom). Very cool.
