I agree with chocolatebunny123. I don't like how it breaks up the continuity. Choosing one would be more beautiful and cohesive. I also prefer the tile above the range. Good luck!

I prefer one tile instead of 2 different ones. However, it will probably look better once the hood is installed. I would try not to worry about it too much.

I would have chosen to do just one tile all the way through. They are both too similar (colour) and dissimilar (shape) that it just does not work for me and interrupts the sight lines in an odd way. However, this may be minimized once the hood is on, and depending on your grout choices.

Ha, I literally just installed the same backsplash . . . Sad! I quite like it. We have an entire wall of subway so I wanted to break it up w/o being too showy. The hood does cover quite a bit of it. I would upload a pick, but now all I feel is shame (kidding, kind of).

N M, the continuity of the rectangular subway all over would be so nice in this case. Too much distraction behind the stove. Not a pro but nice choices on everything else.

I think once you get the hood installed you may feel differently.

FWIW, I like the subway tile color better with your cabs anyway (at least as it appears in your pics).

I prefer non-grouted backsplash behind stoves and cooktops. Easier to clean stainless or metal sheets.

i was a bit startled by the sideways arabesque tile. i really dont think it would have been tragic having 2 kinds or having the arabesque sideways, once the vent was up, i hope and pray you can meld the subway coming from both directions tho.....measure it out, if it doesnt work you can always put the subway tile vertically in the open space. rather than having to redo the section on the left and ending up with slivers of tile.

@ninigret, Per our installer's instructions we removed all of the tile from where the arabesque tile begins on the left hand side to the corner of the other wall, including the subway. I would think that this would prevent the problem you're talking about.

Initially, we wanted the arabesque throughout, but then thought it wouldn't age well. So a compromise was to have the arabesque only above the range and have subway everywhere. I think a different proportion of arabesque tile coupled with the elongated subway could have worked well. I didn't like the wider arabesque tile, but it's the only one that matched the colour that we wanted.

This image was an inspiration, and I think it looks great here, but the proportion of the tiles and their colour with respect to the cabinets seem to make a huge difference.

Hey, I thought this kitchen looked familiar. I see you got your counter top. From the little bit I see around the faucet it looks pretty and much more interesting than what you originally were considering. Is that a granite? Good that you are going all subway as it looks like the counter has a lot of movement. Looking good.
