Would you consider swapping out the chairs to a more contemporary style?

It was a special order piece I inherited from my grandmother, who passed when I was very young. It has 7 leaves and can become huge when they're added. The chairs (that match) have spindle type legs...think like peppermint sticks? I would really like to keep them together with the table if possible, but I'm open to suggestions...thanks!

I cannot find any pictures where this type of table and chairs are shown in a contemporary setting. I can decorate the rest of the dining space (new construction) if that helps. Just a sentimental gift...
