OT: Who all are affected by Florence?

I know we have a few members close enough to the coast that hurricane Florence will be a problem. Evacuate if you need to, please! Be safe! Pack up the quilts and at least one sewing machine with a project to work on if evacuating to a hotel. Wouldn't it be neat if there was an app or something that showed quilters around the world who were willing to house other quilters when there's an emergency like this??? Could bring up a map of the U.S., choose an area and have Friendship Stars at the locations. Somebody knows how to do this. Stay safe!

At this time, I still have power, some rain, light wind - but we are under a flood watch for our county, but I don’t really have to worry about flooding near my house. This is a very s-l-o-w moving hurricane and it looks like it has veered off a little more to the south just now when watching on TV. I just want the whole thing to go away so I can safely make it to the mountains on Tuesday for our retreat.

I'm in Lexington, SC. We're doing what we can to get prepared. All I know for sure is we will get extra rain here and I suspect some wind and flooding to go along with it. (We're not in an evacuation area.)

If we have still have power in a few days, I'll post an update.

I'll appreciate an update, Jeanne. Are you on high ground? Hopefully you'll be able to keep the important things dry.......fabric, machines, etc. The surge will happen further north, right?

That's an incredibly wonderful idea, Sharon!

I'm outside of Greenville, SC, about 90 miles NW of Jeanne. Looking at Florence's current path, and if she stays on course; we're projected to get anywhere from 4-10 inches of rain, though the winds should be calmer than at the coast. We're on high ground, and prepared to be without power, because we're in an area with mature trees and above-ground power lines outside the neighborhood. Even though we're 200 miles inland, no one around here has forgotten the devastation caused by Hugo (29 years ago this month).

Everything is still fine here. I know the coast is having a rough time of it with all the rain and how slowly the storm is moving. We had sunshine earlier today, but the sunshine is gone. No rain yet. I'm cooking dinner in case that is not possible tomorrow.

Yes, today has been pleasant...breezy and overcast. We watched the clouds roll in, but no rain yet. If Florence keeps moving, it will be late afternoon tomorrow when she really begins to pour. We've been downgraded to 2-6 inches of rain, and I'm thankful for that. Hoping the high winds die down, too, since we have so many trees in our neighborhood.

I'm so glad everyone sounds like they will weather the storm pretty well. A few year's ago our area had major flooding along a river due to rain from one of the hurricanes in the gulf and we are up here outside of Chicago. Who would have thought?
