Lack of Storage space in kitchen. HELP!!

I am in desperate need of more storage/pantry space in my kitchen. Any advice on how to better utilize this space instead of throwing everything on my center island? Thanks

There are some great youtubers that can take you step by step through what you need to do. Here’s an example:

No matter what you do, you’re going to need to purge, sort, and containerize.

in your base cabinets, behind the doors you can install roll out pantry caddys. All the pantry items can be stored behind doors like that. go buy big bowls and put elsewhere the fruits/etc..... on kitchen table....a top of a bookcase? Look for adjacent space to rest things that get consumed fairly rapidly...... in pretty bowls/canisters/bread box/etc.

can we see inside the cabinets. keep the pills in the hall cabinet or bathroom. get rid of the wine cabinet on top of the fridge and out baskets for the cereal. move the sure la table plastic ago holder into the mudroom. rearrAnge cabinets and declutter.

The only place in the kitchen that is worse than storing wine over the refrigerator is in the oven. Wines hate hate hate heat. Get the wine out of the hot kitchen pronto. And then you will have an additional nice cabinet space. Have you a basement or cellar for the wine? I also keep potatoes and onions in the basement - cool and dry.

On the other side of the kitchen doorway it looks like there's a short bookcase, could a tall pantry cabinet possibly fit there?

I think that is her entry hall, so unless it's a pretty cabinet of some kind, that is probably not the best place for additional storage, unfortunately.

What else is around your kitchen? Do you have a garage or basement nearby? What is actually in your cabinets now? Can you remove the wine storage from above the fridge? Do you have any other budget for changes at all? Even just for roll out shelves to maximize your cabinet space? Need more info!

I do not have a lauder in my kitchen so I keep things in upper cabinets and added shelves with bowls to stowe potatoes, onions, avacados , etc. I have glass apothecary jars for oranges and apples. We cut small build in cubbies to hold spices between wall studs. You could add shelves above your wall phone and pretty bowls to hold bananas and apples or even boxes of cereal and cans.

Ditto on getting rid of the wine storage above the fridge. You might be a able to add a small shelf unit on the end of the peninsula if you have enough room. Also, go through everything you have and if you haven't used it in a year, give it to charity. (Unless it's a family heirloom). You will be surprised at how much space you will clear up.

My cabinets are filled with Tupperware, pots and pans mostly. That’s a great idea about the roll out shelving. I do plan on getting rid of the wine rack. That is my hallway so I couldn’t put anything there. Thanks for the recommendations

Could you install between-the-studs pantries with a door? That way, you can add much needed storage but have a door to close that will hide the contents; your entry - or anywhere else you put them - always looks neat and presentable.

Here's an example taken from the above thread:

"My cabinets are filled with Tupperware, pots and pans mostly."

Do you need all the Tupperware containers? I used to have a large amount, but when I remodeled I took to heart the recommendation here to scrutinize what you have and get rid of duplicates, rarely used items, etc. For example:

    • I realized all the large plastic containers are only used at Christmas when I go into a cookie baking frenzy. I purged them and got down to only a few - and I store them in the basement b/w Christmas seasons.
    • I realized that I never use all the Tupperware containers at one time, so I monitored my use for a couple of months and got rid of almost half! I also got rid of all those containers that I had lost the top for or that were the flimsy plastic ones I had accumulated over the years (e.g., Ziploc or Glad reusable)

    .

I now store all my containers in one 33"W drawer + 1/2 of a 31"W drawer.

(A few years ago, I replaced the vast majority of my plastic containers with glass containers so they can go directly into the MW - especially useful at work!)

    .

Do you need all the post & pans that you have?

    • Do you have multiples of pots/pans the same size?
    • Do you have old ones that you just can't bring yourself to get rid of, etc.? Get rid of them!

    .

I donated a lot of items to family and friends. I also saved some things that I knew my kids would need when they got their own place - I stored them in the basement in boxes.
