I would change those light fixtures and get a nice chandelier. Curtains are a great idea and the table should be square/rectangle.

White upholstered chairs would be tough with little ones around for years! You can find a set of 4 chairs and a different pair easily at consignment stores. Console doesn't need to match either....have fun

How about wicker? Natural, contemporary with an Asian flair. I think corner hutches would be too much, you're right.

Wicker wing chairs at the head would relate to the traditional table, yet reflect a contemporary style.

These chairs are fun, kid friendly, budget friendly and come in other colors. West Elm has a great selection right now. I saw some for $29.

If you're not putting a piece of furniture under the art, please lower it so that the center point is 60" above the floor. If you add furniture underneath, hand the art 5" above it.

@kelly - I like the chairs but I'm not sure if they will give a formal feel. The problem is that it's an L shaped dining and living and the floor plan is open. So I need to make sure that the theme is carried out in both the rooms. Also we have an eat in kitchen so kids will be confined there. Lol. What do you think of these chairs or something like these?

Love the links for the curtains. I was thinking along the same lines but with more neutral colors. I think I'll decide on the chairs and the console table first and then tie it all together with the curtains and the rugs. Thoughts?

I didn't see any links, but personally, I would do the same chair all around an oval table.

2. I want to put a console/buffet table under the wall art. I'm confused about the design and the color. Should I match it to the table? Thoughts?

Since your chairs aren't going to "match" the table, I would contrast a buffet.

3. I was thinking of putting in two corner hutches at each side of the window. Will it be too much. Should I just do without them. I don't want the room to look cluttered or small.

Corner hutches are not appropriate to the style of your table or artwork. I vote no to corner hutches.

4. What do you guys suggest about window treatment. I'm thinking curtains to add color and character. I want to do without a rug as wooden floors are easier to clean and maintain.

Love the wood floors! Consider slip-covered chairs in a color or print or a kind of wicker ( Go Darzy!) with print cushions. I personally prefer neutral window treatments. But that doesn't mean they can't add texture.

Floors are beautiful! I would replace the light for sure ... looks out of place, belongs over an island.

Ikea has crisp white curatins for so inexpensive and nice quality. West Elm also has big sales on their more up-to-date curtain patterns.

Hi there Congrats on the new baby! ok so I would definitley go with sheers and panels for the window I would however leave off the two corner hutches at each side of the window it will be way to much going on. The rod should be mounted about 6'' above the window frame and the panels for the drapery should be about 24'' wide to just frame the window .

@indianpatti - I like the pendants - gives an intimate look when sitting down. I know they are more suited over an island. In a couple of years we will update our kitchen so we can transfer them there but for the time being this is it. I'm attaching a close up of the art work.

The scale of the rug pattern is difficult to judge. Are the two tables sitting on it full size? I get the impression they are toys. Be careful with the term "coral" which is generally in the orange family. The blossoms on the picture tend more to pinks or fuschias on my monitor.

Yeah I meant more towards pink but not sure about that.

Well, right away, I would say that your dining table is Empire & that console is Queen Anne. I wouldn't mix the two, but that doesn't mean that you can't. ;)

Thanks pattiegoode - yeah you are right. Not going to get that. What do you think about the rug ? It matches the wall art but I'm afraid it will get too dull.

Consider doing a painted console/ buffet. Then when you add painted or upholstered chairs at the table, your awesome table will really become the star of the room. Your window is perfectly placed to drape corner to corner with the rod placed high to the ceiling. Then that wall becomes more important as a back drop for the table & the singular art work you want to high light. Maybe the opposite wall (to the art) could take a large mirror. I rather like the rug, but don't feel like a dining room always needs a rug. Especially with your table base, which will hide a good deal of the rug. I put my money in the drapes & chairs. Then you can also add table linens or a great centerpiece to finish the room. These last items are also easy to change or rotate with the seasons. A rug - not so much.
