This is not a space for a lot of cleverness or cuteness. I would suggest it be planted solid with Liriope. (That's two rows.) It is evergreen so always there. It blooms. At the last 6' plant solid with a single variety of annuals for some color near the entrance.

Without knowing specifics about what part of the country or the size of the bed, I can give you some general recommendations. Bulbs are nice for a pop of color in the spring, but unless you plant annuals following the bulbs, the ground could be pretty bare the remainder of the year. Groupings of boxwoods, liriope, or heath, or small ornamental grasses are good for year-round interest.

Wood chips or stones are somewhat of a personal preference and have pros and cons. Wood chips are nice because they cool the soil and provide organic matter. However, wood chips do have to be replaced as they decompose or blow away. Stone doesn't have to be replaced. However, if the area is hot, stones can radiate heat.

Garden Artist we’re in Luxembourg, so not in the US. I’d say the width is maybe 50cm and length is maybe around 4m.

Would a combination of boxwoods and liriope with a few groupings of perennial bulbs work then? I’d rather not have all one solid plant if I can get away with some variety, though I realize it’s a narrow bed!

A lot lot of people plant lavendar here in these types of beds and it does really well. But I’m imagining maybe liriope is hardier and/or nicer looking year-round than lavendar?

Where is this house. To me it looks like somewhere in Europe rather than the USA. Luxembourg?

ETA.... ha, ha, I was a few minutes too late! I would definitely have something like tete a tete daffs in clumps the full length preceded by crocuses, then either all one thing or at least a limited palette planted over. Liriodendron or Ophiopogon would work. Lavender if the position is sunny. Ferns if it isn’t. Possibly hardy geraniums.
