yes ... agree... the common name... look at the 2 current posts on burkes red ....

cultivars vary by name.. based on the amount of white/yellow on the needle .. the lesser such.. the more common.. if you get my drift ... closer to the common name ....

Echoing Ken... Definitely Pinus densiflora. May be 'Golden Ghost' or 'Burkes Red Variegated'.

My Burke's has put on 6 inches its first spring, and 7 its second growing season. But I hear they can achieve up to a foot a year. I'm expecting even more vigorous growth in '19.

Ulimately it can reach 30 feet with an equal spread, but it is a tree so it never really stops growing.

It browned a bit its first year in full sun, but fared a lot better its second year.

It has responded well to a few inches of compost/shredded pine mulch like all trees do.

If it is having success in my 7b I'd wager it would handle your zone 7 just as well.

I did have to battle sawfly larvae on it last year, and if you live near any pine forests you can expect the same.

Variegated P. densiflora next to the fish & crab shack? Interesting.

Won't last long in MD -- needlecast and/or nematode-blight.

I went back to crab shack today for more pix. I like the habit but I think the plant has issues for my area.

maybe just sume thinning out would help
