My house has been done for a little while now but I love seeing everyones progress.

sabrinatx we weren't the first to cook in our house either. They had not one microwave, not 2 microwaves but 3!

vinmarks our guys had a microwave, electric pan a hot plate and a frying pan lol, glad they are eating well.

I think three microwaves gets the prize vinmarks.

We always drove up to a pile of leftover hot peppers (among other things) :)

I stopped by today, despite the many trucks and vans outside (I don’t want to get in the way!) and boy it was busy inside (yay!)
Paint colors are happening, tiling in bathrooms and laundry started, and skylights in master bedroom and bathroom opened (previously covered).

Speaking of firsts in a house, myself and my SO were waiting until the garage was all nice and cleaned out and the concrete to finish curing before we parked in it for the first time. Well when we went to the house one day to check on the progress of the gentlemen hanging the sheetrock, we noticed there was no car parked in the driveway. We thought that they must have gotten dropped off... until we opened the garage door and we saw them parked inside. Who parks inside of someone else's garage? We couldn't believe it, and my SO was pretty heartbroken. His favorite part about the house is "his" garage, and the fact that someone else parked in it before he did got to him. To top it off, when we went back the next morning, we noticed their car left a nice oil puddle in the middle of the floor. We were not pleased at all. Luckily the kitty litter seemed to get rid of most of it.

All the windows are in and most of the doors. Still waiting on front door so we have a temp Osb door.

Ice and water shield on roof and roofer coming back this weekend to finish roof.

Ktdh- that sounds like us. We have all the windows in, all but one door and the roof has been darked in. We're so close to lock up. The mostly Amish framing crew we had was nice, but had a few mess ups that we caught and had them fix. They were nice about it, but clearly not excited to have to re-do work or make adjustments after the inspector came through (no surprises to us, just clarifying certain things).

Mason can hopefully start next week (delayed bc of the framing crew taking longer) and the porches/breezeway are supposed to be poured early next week. I'd love for the roof to be finished, but we're supposed to get rain Friday and Sunday, so I'm guessing it'll be another week. Hoping for a dry fall and mild winter so good progress can be made on the interior work, but we are at the mercy of the weather it seems.

We've had so many neighbors stop by and say how nice the house looks already and how impressed they are/that we're doing the right thing. So that's been a really good feeling.

Our crazy ride has finally begun. Last week the trees were cleared and yesterday they started the footings.

I love these threads so much... I'm the long time lurker. We've been in our house 4.5 years. I am living vicariously through all of your beautiful views and awesome homes!! Wow... just wow. So cool to see so much variation from all across the country!! (& Canada!!)

Ok y'all win "I thought I'd be the first"!! LOL I met with the builder this morning to go over paint colors. I stuck with SW colors, silver strand for all main living areas and kitchen. Master bed and bath, laundry room and half bath will be sea salt. My daughter chose a light blue Crystal stream, and my son ugh my son.... He chose a super dark gray almost black color. So I had to pull rank. We're going to go with morning fog on one wall and cut it by 50% on the other three. All doors, trim and cabinet colors will be sw pure white. Good news is they are finally cleaning up all their crap! LOL

We have our keys! You guys this is so unreal! I can’t wait to move out of this apartment tomorrow morning. It feels so great to have a completed house and to start a new chapter for my husband and I. For those of you that are in your build process I wish you all the best! Hang in there, there is light at the end of the tunnel!

lol yes, or my 12 year old when we moved in, her room looked like Sweet Tarts threw up in it. Purple, bright green, turquoise & pink I think!! A little over 2 years later we were repainting dark orange & gray. SOOO much difference between 12 & 15 LOL :)

Yes that is my attic turned into an unfinished room.

New update. Driveway going in now! first pic facing the east. And second pic facing the west.

    Footers being poured.

Just spent time looking at all of the updates...congratulations to mre on completion and good luck moving in. Your house is so pretty and I Love, love, love your floors.

pinebaron..so sorry for your loss. 95 is pretty amazing. My mom is now 92. Your house Is looking good And you are almost there as well.

i know I don’t post updates very often but thought I should. We are actually going to be in by Thanksgiving. I never thought it would happen. It means a lot to me because my dd and her family are coming home. This project has been almost three years and I really doubted it would ever be done. Not done yet...but so, so close.

My Amish stairbuilder finished my stairway today. It was messed up early in the project and this gentleman came in and tore the whole thing out and rebuilt it and finished it. He made the Newell post himself from a picture I showed him. An amazing craftsman. Third house we have built and the first good stairway.

Here is the picture I gave him.

Excited for you ILR - yours has been a long journey and I know you've battled build fatigue. That stairway is gorgeous and the newell post is a dead ringer for your inspiration - great choice.

Congrats MRE15!!!!! My updated ETA is November, but I just don’t see it

Still waiting on a few cabinets (at this point he is beyond late), and we have a few more things to get up before we can have electrical inspection. Pool on hold until electrical done in pavilion. Not much has been accomplished. I picked my slabs. Some of the hardware was put on. Ordered all my plumbing fixtures. Garage doors were installed, I can’t wait to see them painted.
Tenisha.....what did you finally go with for your counters?
nidnay, marble in the bathrooms and granite in the kitchen and laundry room. I still have to pick something for the bar and pool areas.
Tenisha....got it. Love your garage doors.

Are you completely sick and tired of decision making :) ?

Tenisha..love your brick. My dh would be jealous of your garage size. Nice.

DLM...yep, I’ve had it. I feel like an old lady. Thank G** we are almost done.

thanks for the empathy. It helps.

Thanks ILoveRed! nidnay, it’s not even fun anymore. I just want it done.

Guess, It's time to jump in since I'm practically bursting with questions. My husband and I are having a walkout home built only a quarter mile or so, away from our farm. Easy to get there, when it's not raining or snowing. There is a path to it but not a permanent driveway, which will eventually go through a corn field and ends on a pasture of virgin soil in front of a very large pond. I've kayaked on the pond this summer, dreaming of our new house. Mostly wondering what the heck we are doing. Anyway, this past week the digging crew of one guy, came by and did his thing. The footing guy started on Friday and hopes to be pouring by Wed. It's suppose to rain, so I'm sure it will! My builder stopped by my current house yesterday (Friday) and asked for another blueprint. I'm starting to wonder if he is papering his house with blueprints. LOL, I don't care as long as he gets the new place done. So bear with me for the next year because I really want your input. Thx. Toni

Toni- Welcome! And good luck! Building is not for the faint of heart! Hope it’s a smooth process for you. It definitely helps that you live so close to the new build.

Good luck to you Toni! My husband are just a step ahead of you. We are waiting for the framers start after the concrete cures.

Welcome Toni!!!! This group is definitely a great resource.

Welcome Toni. The collective knowledge here is a great resource to tap when you need it. Also when you need to talk to someone who understands. I liken building to being the first in your friend group to have a baby and you're boring everyone with all the little details/updates and accomplishments and they basically can't understand because they've never done it.

I've known people who have built their own custom houses still not ask how this momentous thing in my life is going. ::Shrug::

Ilovered - I love your newell posts. I saved a photo of something similar as an inspiration for our home but wound up going with something similar but on a smaller scale. Your staircase is a star in your home!

Thank you Vanessa. I’m really excited about my stairway. So silly.

We did a 45 day lock on an interest rate so thats something right? We are financing through one of the builders. I thought it was funny in a tongue and cheek kind of way when he asked me how long of a lock we wanted. I said "doesn't that depend on when the house will be ready?" "I want it done by November 20th, will it be ready by then?" He told me he'd have to call the other builder and GC and get back to me.

My in-laws are listing their place this week, they are going to live in the new basement, and we expect their money for closing so I just hope that goes well. Its within the right price point it should go but it isn't without some draw backs and needs some work.

The house hasn't progressed visually for 2 weeks now. They did spray the outside trim white last Thursday but stone still isn't up and they haven't done any grading. The inside painters have been going for two weeks and I think they are close to being done but I thought that was the case a week ago so who knows. I guess the patio did get approved by the city.

Can you all tell I'm just done? I'm tired of being in temp housing. I was really looking forward to being in my new house with my family for the holidays. My friends all go cut Christmas trees down up in the mountains right after Thanksgiving and we had planned on doing that but without knowing when the house is done we probably won't be able to do that this year.

Kimberly G!!!! It's beautiful! Do you have horses? I see fence!!

Hang in there Nathan, Tenisha B, it's all worth it in the end!!! :)

Roof almost finished, just in time for another snowstorm! :(

KimberlyG fabulous setting for a lovey house congratulations!

Exterior paint. Its pretty blue but I think it looks good. The two houses that are closest (and finished) are dark gray and dark blue/gray. We like it a lot.

These are from Monday but I guess it was painted on Sunday. The interior paint guys said it was done when the showed up in the morning. They are finishing up the inside paint but are taking their time. They did the basement Monday and part of the 2nd floor yesterday. I'm guessing it'll take them at least until tomorrow to finish upstairs and the main floor but thats just a guess.

The builder did say grading and exterior stone would start before the weekend. I hope that happens.

    Pretty blue Nathan! ❤️
Nathan- what color blue did you use. Looks Great. Tired of seeing all the white and gray houses
  • 6 years ago

Love the blue siding too! Also tired of white and gray houses. We have picked Hardie Khaki Brown, not very colorful but we hope it blends with the heavily wooded lot that we have.

@ ILoveRed - is it possible to get some close up shots of where your wainscot runs into the door jambs? It looks like your baseboard is thicker than the door casing, so I'm curious if it's returned before there and how it looks?

We're having some design challenges at the moment - baseboard is a 1x8 backer with a 1x7 detailed baseboard. The door casing is a standard RB3 profile, and so the trim carpenter is recommending the 1x8 run into the casing and the baseboard be returned before it. It's either let the baseboard buildup sit proud of the door casing or find some huge plinth blocks...

We finally got our permit!!! For those not following along, it took us 15 months. Now to close our loan so we can start building. I can't wait to actually have pictures for this thread.

Lori, yes I have two horses that own me!

    Nathan, love the blue color!

For everyone that was interested the blue is SW 9149 Inky Blue. We started with a lighter shade but after buying sample pints and painting them on to scrap wood for real world inspection we settled on this one.

I started a new November build's thread. Finally joining you all. Just waiting on permit which should be about 2 weeks.
