I would move the chair to the opposite side, move the table between them, so they both face the outside view. I think sectionals are not practical because no one sits in that middle part when you entertain and you are stuck with a fixed look. You have nice furniture. You don't state your motive for buying new.

OP, can you provide a photo from behind the couch? Can't figure out why you have kind of a void in the forefront.

Anyhow, I'm of the opinion that a sectional is rarely a functional improvement over regular sofa(s) and sitting chairs. Sofa plus sitting chairs or dueling sofas offer an arrangement that's much more conducive to socializing and conversation because everyone is facing each other. Also you have places to put end tables and lamps.

On the other hand, sectionals great for flopping down on to watch a movie or play a video game with your friends in the den/family room that is not the same room as your living room.

What you have is quite lovely....and re-arranging your furniture could bring a whole new feel to the room .....to me a sectional would bring a sleeker more modern feel ....a nice clean modern contrast to all the other small details in the room...

Cute dog. So you've established you are open to the idea of some new pieces of furniture so before we figure out what those pieces might be can you tell us how you use this room. Entertaining? If so, how many seats would work for your needs? Is this where you watch TV and the reason for the chair with ottoman? What has to stay? And it looks like you have electrical plugs in the floor? And anything else we should be aware of to help you?

Ahhh so it is a fireplace! I was going to suggest a dueling sofa setup (rotate couch 90 degrees, get it a matching buddy to place opposite it) around the fireplace, but then I noticed the TV, and rotating the couch makes watching less convenient.

I think the latest rearranent is nice, and keeps the space versatile. With a sectional, you'd gear the space more towards watching TV and make it feel more like a TV watching zone than a living room sitting area, and I'm not sure if that's your intent.

Lose the ottoman. Put it somewhere unobtrusive and bring it out when extra seating is needed or use it as a coffee table - add a tray.. The glass table is visually too light weight and the wrong shape for the furniture. The chairs should not be angled. They should be parallel to the heavy chair opposite (sans ottoman). The throw pillows are too large and stiff. Use a lighter color (mustard, emerald, gold) add fringe. In general the accessories should be in a color other than beige or brown. Consider a ginger jar lamp for the round table between the chairs.

Try starting with this....If the rug is a rectangle try running it vertical to the fireplace and tv......with the rug closer to the fireplace.....center the couch facing the tv...and the two arm chairs on each side of the fireplace facing the couch at an angle..the over stuffed chair can be worked in where it feels best or another added so the layout is more balanced...at this stage matching tables at each end of the couch and small tables next to the armchairs can be added

If this all works and you like it...and if there is room ....add a console table behind the couch

A sectional will seriously reduce the number of people the room can seat. Separate the sofa from the chair and ottoman. Each sitter should have a convenient place to set something down. Lamps are needed for more practical more flattering lighting.
